Question about 116610LN Black PVD

Hello guys

My very first day on the forum today and I have this question for you guys.

I am a huge fan of a classic Rolex 116610LN watch that I have also owned before. However recently I been introduced with a black version of it and I absolutely fell in love with it.

I noticed that this watch is quite rare and no people seem to have it and neither talk about it.

I want to know the reason why? Is it the price? Is it a colour? What is the opinion about this black version of Rolex Submariner in the community?

Many thanks in advance

Rolex doesn't make a black version of the Sub Date.

If you want to spend the money to have yours coated, go for it, or alternatively you could buy the very pricey aftermarket company versions out there.

No, they are not popular with most aficionados of the brand.

If you like all black divers watches, have a look at Tudor Black Bay Dark.

I have never been a fan of altering the DNA of a watch. There are many PVD watches from other brands but a sub is beautiful as it comes out of the factory

Pretty much like a car getting resprayed to a color that doesn't come from factory. Some like it, some don't.

As mentioned, PVD Rolexes don't get much discussion here because Rolex doesn't make them. They are aftermarket, custom jobs. Purists don't like significant alterations to - as Doctor A put it - the DNA of the watch.

There's only one I like (not enough to buy), but it's mainly due to nostalgic reasons, since I had a mechanical Mickey Mouse watch as a kid - purchased right on Main Street during a visit to the park - and wouldn't mind reclaiming some lost innocence. That, and I'm not a big fan of the Milgauss anyway, so this doesn't make my blasphemy meter peak the way similar alteration would to other models.

Thank you for your answers, guys! It completely blew me off to find out that Black PVD is just a custom coat - because price is as double of a classic 116610LN on the grey market I have managed to see.. Crazy! £13,000 for a black coat, no thanks then

Just so you know, it doesn't actually cost anywhere near that to have your watch get the PVD treatment and there's plenty of places out there to get it done.

I would say if you like the look that much go for it. But before you do make you sure understand the options that are out there in terms of end result. We see a lot of the jet black glossy finish but there are various shades of black, dark grey, matte finish etc.

Absolutely. I will pass on this black PVD. It is nice because it is different but I will stick to a classic Submariner then

Not my thing and I believe you would pay a premium for it and would have a very limited market for it should you ever decide to sell it.
