How do I get my watch verified?

I have found a potential buyer for my Datejust 116200, who wants to verify the watch is authentic. It was serviced by RSC in Feb 2018, so I obviously have the receipt (From WoS) and 2yr waranty card. Should this be enough for a prospective buyer? I asked WoS and they said they dont offer this service (not even for a nominal fee), and speaking to RSC St James, they simply said the receipt and card should be enough and they would be able to offer this as a separate service. Any advice? Im sure it should be a 2 min task to verify the serial number in store (without going the full monty and checking the movement etc)?

RSC wouldn't work on the watch if it was not a genuine Rolex watch product.

Bobs watches have a serial number checker that will test its a valid serial number and the year of manufacture.

If that’s the same serial number and year printed on the watch and the serial number gets 0 hits on google and the watch doesn’t have any obvious tells of a fake that’s good enough for me.

Ask him how he wants it verified ? If he wants to meet you at an AD and he is willing to pay for the AD view at his cost, OK. You have all the proof already it is real.

RSC card is all you need. If buyer still wants it verified then maybe he/she should not be buying your watch. RSC would only service Rolex that is all original.

If a buyer insists on opening the caseback, I've done that at a reputable watch repair shop. I don't allow caseback to be opened for brand new watches however and if the buyer insists then no deal. Happened when I was selling SD43

if you have no reference or reputation, then it's NOT good enough for me. Anyone can create a fake receipt or warranty card or paper...

That's just me...buy the SELLER...not the watch.

Here’s the best way to verify a Rolex, send it to a Rolex service center to be repaired. Oh wait, you did that. No reason someone shouldn’t trust it.

It is acceptable for a buyer, who may not be familiar with Rolexes and not be able to tell a fake one from a real one, to ask for authentication by a third party. At the very least, a professional in the watch industry to spend a minute or two and give the watch and documentation a look and say ‘ yes this is an authentic Rolex. ‘

I suggest finding a local watchmaker or service shop that does Rolex service, meet the buyer there and let the watchmaker do the looking and checking of the watch for the buyer. I would not agree to open the watch unless the buyer pays me in full first while we are standing there, then watchmaker can open and verify the internals. the buyer is fully committed to buy at that point except if the internals don’t match up. But a reputable watch maker should be able to convince the buyer that opening the watch is not necessary given the condition and documentation.

all of that is good advice except the obvious. A fake watch can have fake papers so the fact that RSC (maybe) worked on it doesnt prove anything if the paper isnt real.

Its good supporting documentation but it doesnt prove anything unless you verify the paperwork, but its probably easier to just verify the watch

Just playing devils advocate and thinking like a paranoid buyer who doesnt know the OP. No one should automatically assume a watch is authentic based on paperwork. Its a great way to give people a false sense of security and encourage them not to scrutinize the watch.
