In defense of two-tone watches...

I've been wearing my Dad's TT YM a lot recently and I've really grown fond of it. In particular, I like that it is TT for two reasons.

First, I think TT is quite versatile. TT dresses up a sports watch enough so that I feel comfortable wearing it with a suit, but not so much that I feel weird wearing it with jeans or shorts. I'm not sure I'm at a point where I'd feel comfortable wearing an all gold watch with casual clothes, and I don't like wearing my SubC with a suit.

Second, TT allows me to "mix" metals. With an all gold watch, I have to make sure all my major "accessories" are gold. Same problem with a steel watch. But with a two tone watch, I can add gold cufflinks with my silver buckle belt, etc.

Black/SS/Gold I think is more universal than Blue/SS/Gold

No need to defend Twin Tone - always going to be 2 camps on this topic. Mostly guys that say "I cant pull of gold nonsense" are the guys that talk negatively about Twin Tone or full gold.

All I know is I LOVE my twin tones and they look freakin awesome. Its not until you try them on then it hits you like "omg why didnt I do this earlier". And no they are not old mans watches. I am early 30s and only rock twin tone or full gold pieces. I sold most my SS watches long long time ago.

* They are actually ramping up in popularity ALOT more these days. Many rappers and public figures rocking Twin Tone from AP/Patek/Rolex. Even saw 50 Cent rocking a TT Bluesy on Instagram the other day - that put a smile on my face hes one of my favorite rappers since I can remember.

* They suite any occasion. Jeans and T shirt or business suite or tux.

Here are my twin tones.

On my skin there can be too much yellow gold. I think the combo of SS/YG is perfect in many applications.

In the current market I can see a lot of sub LV owners selling them and getting Bluesies....something I might consider as the latter is very appealing, perhaps more so than an all gold sub.

No defense of two tone is needed as no defense of any preference is needed - whatever floats your boat is fine.

In some light my TT jubilee bracelet actually looks like it glows. The pale yellow gold reflects on the ss, together with my skin peeking through, it's really a neat effect. And one I've been completely unable to capture in a pic.

Like my Bluesy. I think two tones look sharp! Have thought so even when I was younger, but could not afford them.

TT watches need no defending, they stand up for themselves as most of them are freaking gorgeous.

You make two great points. At the end of the day though, it just comes down to what is attractive to you. Generally speaking TT watches do nothing for me.

Except for this one....

My thoughts exactly. The CHNR was the first TT to make me actually buy. A good friend of mine has several TT and loves them. To each their own and there's no denying that they are all beautiful watches. Just not for everyone.

Absolutely not a TT hater at all !! I own a 16713 GMT which I think is beautiful and even have it on a jubilee. Now that the new pepsi is on that bracelet I appreciate it even more. I love the bluesy, and the new TT CHNR. I like you think that the combo is dressy and sporty enough at the same time.

TT's are beautiful watches. Who cares what others may say about them as long as it/them bring you happines. I most recently tried on the TT rose gold YM and liked it. The TT Black and Blue Subs are 2 classics and are beautiful timepieces

this i totally agree with. I always feel weird with a RG watch and a Pt ring. Part of the reason i have never done one on a full bracelet. Getting a new ring is a bridge too far, according to the boss

TT are awesome. Had a Bluesy for over 18 years and worked in any situation. TT is its own thing and you either want one or you don't. It was soooo popular in the 80's-90's but tempered off in today's mainstream fashion. I don't believe it will ever be out of style just not as popular in today's current fashion.

For my own personal taste I feel yellow gold is too overpowering for me to wear. The TT Rootbeer on the other hand with the rose gold looks perfect!

The argument only exists because of TT bashers for their
own personal reasons not collectively...
You know the saying " Opinions are
like @$$#0LE$$ and everybody has one " !!!

My first love has been the Bluesy and is
still one of my all time favorites.

People tend to like what they cannot get, and beg to pay 18K for a ss Daytona. Sometimes I wonder if they are serious buyers, or they just try to tease the ADs, just to ruin their day lol
TT Daytona it is just perfect IMO.

Yellow gold represents opulence. If you feel you can carry off a full gold President, go for it, but for the average guy it is OTT, and always has been something for the captains of industry or politics (including third world dictators) rather than the common man.

Two tone yellow and steel was 1980s wall street, the guys who figured they could pull off mixing that gold opulence with the clean lines of blue-collar steel - they weren't pretending to be 'old money', just honest hard workin' self-made new money. But really they were the 1%ers.

Now 30 years later, people are willing to accept that TT doesn't mean 1980s yuppie, or a middle-aged man with more money than fashion-sense, it's been around long enough to be a style in its own right. Though those of us will long enough memories to remember the 80s will perhaps think it's a bit cheesy, and not something to just casually wear with shorts and t-shirt except perhaps ironically.

That's the harsh reality of why people act somewhat disparagingly towards TT watches. If you doubt it, try to explain why demand is so low that the ADs can get you any of them at a moment's notice. It's simply because the TTs are more expensive than steel without the proper luxury of PM, and can have some negative connotations.

Granted, there are some who really like them and wear them unironically. My dad is in his early 70s, has nearly a half century of wearing a gold wedding band, and wears gold frames to his eyeglasses, but maybe feels a full gold watch on a gold bracelet would perhaps be a little OTT. He has worn two-tone watches of several different brands over the years.

But me, if I was wearing my dad's watch for any length of time and it grew on me, I think it would be because of affection for my dad's style, not because I expect I could come around to think that it's qualitatively (or VFM) "better" than just steel or just gold. I'm just not a fan, even if I can see that some TT designs are less worse than others.
