Sky Dweller vs DJ 41 as first Rolex?

In my search for the perfect first and possibly only Rolex I have gone from GMT to Sub Date, to Sub no Date and now the DJ/Skydweller. I have narrowed down my ideal collection to a simple three watch rotation based on the following criteria:

1. Casual: (my Speedmaster already occupies this spot)

2. Dress-Casual: Sky Dweller or DJ 41?

3. Dress: JLC MUT Moon, Lange Saxonia outsized date, etc?

I’m looking to decide on the dress- casual piece now and would love the input of my fellow forum members! For the sky dweller I would go black or blue dial, and for the DJ it would definitely be blue. Then comes the oyster vs jubilee debate, what am I getting myself into!?

Unlikely you'll get a Sky-d. The waitlist now is quite ridiculous.

Plus tbh.. it's a large wrist you require to pull off the Sky-D... it's a big watch that swallows up most of your arm, if you have small wrists :p
7.5" > I would say from personal experience.

Get a DJ-41 Fluted / Jubilee. (The Jubilee bracelet makes it look like jewellery and its the most comfortable metal bracelet you'll find)

That's next on my list to acquire.

Also I love the Sky-D's GMT disc... but it is a bit busy on the dial... I like the DJ's simplicity.

Love the blue Sky Dweller.

Go for the Datejust with jubilee and fluted bezel. I bet it will become your daily watch. The combination is very versatile and the jubilee is a very comfortable bracelet.

Sky Dweller and DJ41 to me are very similar looking. Only you can decide if the added complication and price (assuming SS to SS comparison) are worth the extra money for the Sky Dweller. Another thing to consider the Sky Dweller is a bigger watch. Both are great options.

Would you use the dual time zone complication? If so, as a traveler, I would highly recommend the Sky-Dweller. If not the DJ will be sleeker and a better dress option.

Let us know what you decide.

I would use the dual time function occasionally. I’m currently not a big traveller but do plan to change that in the relatively near future. I don’t think that I would ever be a “serial traveller” though. I am leaning towards the jubilee since it will occupy the “dress-casual” spot in my lineup.

Go for the classic since you want to stick to 3 watch collection. It has to be the DJ41 with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. I am picking mine up in 2 weeks time.

I would have to say the DJ with a jubilee bracelet as well. It is classic and timeless with the capability to go from sporty to formal.

I would personally get the DJ, although I love the look of the SkyD but it just wears too large on my wrist

That blue dial look so good in all the photos online but in person I really like the white gold silvery dial. This thing is really big on my 6.5” wrist but I love this watch

I would go Sky Dweller myself. It is a beauty with a great complication.

Sky D is a beautiful watch but in reality, for its purpose, it looks a bit thick for a classy watch. From the pics, I could say Sky D. but in person, I say DJ 41 is to go!

They are two very different animals in terms of how they wear, oh and price

I guess you have to ask yourself if you want an annual calendar and how often will you wear it.

Go DJ41 with a fluted bezel and jubilee. Aesthetically, I prefer the DJ - the size is a bit more in proportion, and I prefer the clean dial of the DJ. That's not to say I dislike the Sky-D by any means, but I don't need/want the extra complications it comes with. For the fluted bezel look, with the added benefits of a jubilee bracelet and seamless transition from casual to dresswear, the DJ is the timeless classic that comes out on top. Oh and it'll save you a few thousand $$.

My vote is the DJ. Go with the bigger size (41mm) to help (barely) scratch that SkyD itch. I'd go with the blue dial, fluted bezel, and jubilee bracelet. You won't regret the decision.

In my opinion Sky-Dweller.
A classic watch but also a professional, with a great caliber

Go Sky-Dweller, if you can find it. It has a great presence and is quite comfortable to wear despite it's relatively thicker cross section. I have a stainless steel version with the black dial. It's become one of my favorite watches to wear.

IMO the DateJust. Aesthetically I'm not a fan of the Sky-Dweller.

If you can find one then I would suggest that you buy the Sky-Dweller. IMO the complication does it all and to boot it can be worn with any attire.

Skydweller if you can

Hard to find and more showy

I’m wearing my newest one today.
I’ve got a few SKyD love them all

DJ 41 is everywhere and will always be if you ever change your mind. Can’t say the same about SkyD
