GMT C arrived!!!

I received my SS GMT C yesterday ! Big thanks to kudosguy for recommending an AD and also to this forum for the wealth of knowledge and friendly help thats been on offer for my first Rolex purchase.

As a newb, the first emotion upon unpacking it was "yup, its just a watch". Despite the outlay and weeks of deliberation, I already knew that the initial hook up was bound to be a little anti-climactic, afterall a watch just a small mechanical device that you wear on your wrist what tells the time, right?

So having gotten over the fact that it didn't change my life, I've been wearing it for the past 24 hours and the bonding process is now in full flow. Fit and comfort are excellent compared to my old watch (more on that later). The PCL and ceramic bezel do make for a dressy watch that catches the light, but it'd be wrong to call this 'bling' as the form of the GMT C is still classic and elegant IMO, particularly when compared to some of the other sports watches that are around. The best bit however, is holding the watch close to my ear and hearing the mechanical movement doing its thing, thats a marvelous thing to someone who's previously only had quartz.

I've read numerous threads on watch sizing over the xmas holidays and despite trying it on, it started to weigh on my mind whether or not the GMT was too large for my 6 and 3/4 inch wrists. I've therefore included a couple of wrist shots (please excuse the phone-camera quality). After 24 hrs of wrist time, I'm absolutely happy with it, but would appreciate any comments.

I can now see why WIS'ers may hold a watch for several months before calling it a keeper because there are many subtle nuances at play. I'm not looking to build a big collection, just this one and a Stowa Airman Original. I'm very happy with my choices so far (the Airman is not due till late 2009 ) and can see the GMT becoming a part of my daily life. Thanks again for the good vibes on this forum which continues to play a part in the bonding!

MY OLD WATCH : a few words about my old watch; I've been wearing a Seiko Arctura SNL023 for the past 4years. I wasn't in to watches at all and was drawn to its rather avant-garde looks. Putting it next to the GMT C for the first time (pic attached), it absolutely dwarfs it!!! A quick google for its specs reveal a case size of 44mm and 190 gram weight...and there was me worrying about the size of the GMT !!! Its been 100% reliable but for its large size and unsubtle looks I think it will be permanently relegated to the bottom of the sock drawer from here on. Thanks for the time!!!

LOL! Yeah! Glad someone noticed, can't believe that I lugged that thing around for 4 years! Seeing it next to the GMT is enough to make me think about stepping up to a SDDS!!!

Welcome to the club.

But do you wear it above your wristbone like in the pix?

Well spotted! However, its just a trick of the light as that is in fact just a big @ss vein. I'm an avid road cyclist...lean as a butcher's dog so those veins just pop out!
