"I almost bought that same watch at Walmart the other day"

No one else to share this with, figured you might get a kick out of it..

Me and a friend were out catching up not too long ago. We're sitting at the bar doing what you do and such; myself a vodka drink, him a Heineken. He is wearing an AP diver forged carbon he got no more than a week earlier. We're BS'ing, and he admits he loved the watch but wasn't bonding with it now that he owned it. I agreed with him, stating I felt the same way and sold mine some time ago for reasons I couldn't put my finger on. As we're sitting there, a guy comes up to the bar to order a drink, and while standing next to my friend, points (at my friends AP) and says "I almost bought that exact same watch at Walmart yesterday!". The guy then went on to say he decided against it due to having a cell phone or something to similar effect. The guy leaves, my friend and I have a laugh about it. By the next morning... my friend had the watch up for sale.

Chance encounter with random stranger ruined a $25,000 watch for my friend and finally gave a concise rationale as to why we could not bond with it. The AP forged carbon diver looked too "Wal-marty". A new WIS industry term I do believe.

Maybe it’s just me but, I would head to Walmart to find it’s look alike and gift it to your friend.

Walmart may as well start selling Invicta too .
Most of them look like Rolex models ...

That guy wasn’t wrong: plastic-cased watches do tend to look pretty downmarket, regardless of how fancy the plastic is.

The comment would have been even funnier — not to mention even more accurate — if your friend had received it while wearing a Richard Mille, though. :)

Many luxury watches fall under the same category.

He was maybe mistaken - he didn’t see one at Walmart while shopping for tires, he prolly saw it at Costco while shopping for TP.

awesome story

Of all the watches I've ever owned its the only one that I really miss wearing after a few days. The comfort, durability and unique "Walmart" look check all the boxes for me.

It’s a problem when watches get too busy, too loud, too big, they start to look just like the inexpensive sport watches that are online and in big box stores. Probably the bigger problem is that you are likely to tire of them quickly like a passing fashion.

"I almost bought that exact same watch at Walmart yesterday!"

This is what someone wearing a $50k watch would say to bust $25k worth of chops.

Yep I believe it. I was at a black tie event with the wife a while ago. A guy at our table had a Nautilus on. I pointed it out to my wife excitedly and here exact words were "that looks like a watch you could buy at Walmart"

I wish I can buy that for the Walmart price. Maybe there's a roll back too or Black Friday sale coming out.

Hilarious. Why didn't I think of going to Wally World to buy an AP? Maybe they have a bunch of 5711s too.

My father in law thought my PP 5164a was a Walmart special as well. Personally, I love my FC Diver, it is so fun and versatile. I find it hard to believe that I would ever sell it.
