Datejust 41

Hi All

I'm currently looking to buy a datejust 41 and trying to decide which dial colour to go with (I really love them all lol)

The ones im currently looking at are:

Blue

Rhodium

Silver

I'll probably go with Oyster bracelet and smooth bezel or Oyster Bracelet with fluted bezel. I want to be able to wear it daily .

Which dial colour would you go for? If you can post pics of your watch that will be great! :)

My recommendation is:

Rhodium = smooth bezel with oyster bracelet for sportier looks

Silver = fluted bezel with jubilee bracelet for more formal looks

The oyster bracelet and smooth bezel is the way to go. All the dials are fantastic. It would be blue or Rhodium for me.

You have to buy what you like, period. Everyone will tell you their preference and you’ll get different responses, naturally. I had a DJ41 with oyster bracelet and smooth bezel. I got bored with it in less than a year and sold it. If I were to buy another DJ41 I would get a jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel.

You can’t go wrong with either of those dial colors IMO. I went with silver fluted oyster. I wanted to use this primarily as a dressier watch but with the versatility to wear casually from time to time, and I think the silver dial is the dressiest of the three but still looks great even with jeans. On the other hand, if casual wear is more your emphasis, it’s really hard to resist that blue dial. As far as bezel/bracelet options go, I like the “mix and match” look—i.e., oyster/fluted or jubilee/smooth, as both of these combinations seem to better suited to both dressing up and dressing down, whereas jubilee/fluted is primarily dressy and oyster/smooth is primarily casual IMO.

Possibly the most difficult question to answer in the history of mankind, that said, I go fluted, blue and Oyster.

Same position, also want to buy a DJ41.

My pick is Rhodium, fluted. Blue is elegant as well but for whatever reason, I like the Rhodium much more. But they are all sold out where I am and I need to wait 2-4 months.

What a tough choice. I often change my mind on this question. I wanted silver at first but ended up with the slate w/ green romans and am very happy. I stopped by an AD today and they had blue, rhodium and black, all beauties but for another I'd go rhodium, besides being legible it goes with anything. You can't go wrong with smooth on oyster either but if l get another I'll try the jubilee. Sorry to ramble on what I'd do but putting one of so many choices available sounds fun, hope your enjoying choosing yours, the 41 is a lot to love.

This thread may be useful - I got some helpful input on it.

Personally, I’d go silver dial, fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet

Unless you have an extraordinarily large wrist, I would suggest you consider the 36mm DJ. It’s far more classic and timeless, imho.

I get that some people prefer a much smaller version of the DJ, but I really don’t understand why anyone would have to have an ‘extraordinarily large wrist’ to wear the 41 size?

It’s smaller than a Sub, which, as you may know, is 40mm - probably the most common case size for gents.

Never knew so many get it wrong...

The difference is, the sub is a dive watch, meant to be big and visible. The datejust was not meant to be visible x fathoms under water.

My wrist is 7". The larger DJs fit, but looked wrong. I don't even think they're the same watch as the 36, they look so bloated.

My post relates to the size. The physical real estate on the wrist.

Whether you think the larger DJ’s look bloated in their design, or whether you think it’s a different watch to the smaller version, or whether it is supposed to be one size rather than another and meant to be this or that... the PHYSICAL case size is no bigger than 40mm.

So, you don’t, need an ‘extraordinarily large’ wrist to wear it.

Someone thinking the ‘anatomy’ of the watch itself is off, is a different matter.

That, was the point I’m making. Not ‘how’ the watch itself should look.

And it is well made at that, as 40mm is 40mm, of course. I guess all 40mms aren't all equal.

But the Sub has a sport bezel, while the DJ does not. So, the actual dial size of the DJ41 is PHYSICALLY larger than the Sub’s dial, which looks out of proportion on an average sized wrist....in my opinion.

I have a 7” wrist and don’t think this is too large in anyway. Blue. Jubilee with smooth bezel

My wife has a silver diamond dial and it looks gorgeous in varying light, so much that it makes me want one...the rhodium is quite beautiful as well especially with diamond dial. These watches look classier and more flexible for different attire in lighter dials.

OP what did you end up buying? I'm not a fan of the new jubilee on the DJ41 as it doesn't have the hidden clasp on the 36mm jubilee. Oyster and fluted works well in the DJ41.

Any dial with the jubilee/fluted combo looks great! (IMO). All around great watch, worn on any occasion.
