New member from Toronto and brand new Rolex owner

Hi All,

New to the forum, very excited to learn more about the Rolex brand and join in the conversation.

I joined the forum only recently as I had made the decision at the time I joined to imminently purchase a Rolex Datejust. I had been waffling between a late-model Omega Constellation or a vintage Rolex, but the attraction of a vintage Datejust was too strong to resist. I am the type who has to research a purchase thoroughly before committing. I found the information on this forum invaluable and it helped me to be an informed buyer. For the past couple of weeks, I have researched the models, the seller whom I had picked out and the Canadian marketplace. Today, I made the purchase. I now possess a very honest example of a 1973 two-tone Reference 1601 Oyster Perpetual Datejust.

Look forward to chatting, learning and networking.

Smart to do your homework, Robert. Too many don't and become regretful.

Likely you will enjoy your careful purchase for decades to come.

Welcome to TRF!

Thanks for the welcome. I know I've made the right choice. The watch is pristine. I verified the seller's claim that it had been recently serviced by putting the watch on my Watch-o-scope timing machine and measuring it (with the seller's permission). It has 0.1mS beat error, 289° amplitude and -1.2 seconds daily rate. The line was flat and beautiful. What pleased me most was that the bracelet fit my large wrist without the need for any adjustment or introducing a new link. I can't complement the seller enough; he was a honest forthright guy.

Thanks. Glad to meet another Torontonian. Unfortunately, I'm not an accountant. If I were, I'd definitely earn more money. :) Nope, compliance manager for a large Canadian Bank, looking after your credit card security.

Below, I've attached a picture of the watch.

I first tested the watch at the dealer's location on my timing machine before purchasing it and once again after I got home. I was very pleased with its performance. Dial up, the daily rate was 0.2s/d, amplitude was 270-280 degrees and beat error was only 0.6mS. The graph was dead flat confirming the dealer's assertion that it was recently serviced.
