RIP Emantic Bradford

Emantic Bradford was shot by off duty police in an Alabama mall while assisting others to safety when a shooting erupted in the Mall. Bradford had a concealed carry permit and was armed at the time. Police shot the first armed black man they saw and proclaimed the situation resolved.

After changing their story several times, and walking back the original narrative, police admitted they shot the wrong man.

I had read about this, Abdullah. So sad. Awful really. It's good that the truth of the situation came out.

This will only further divide people. Why did they have to lie about it. If the cop would've accessed the situation just a tiny bit, he could have prevented this tragedy. How sad.

Yep. Sad part is, there are plenty of cases where it goes the other way, but this one being the nature it was will only further the rage on both sides. It's a never ending battle. I don't see an end to this sort of thing any time soon. It really sucks for everyone.

Yes. That was really bad. I have read some other things about this shooting that are even worse, if they are true.

That's a tough one too. If what she claims is the truth. Can you imagine genuinely thinking you've entered your own apartment. Then find out it's not, and you've killed someone. The guilt would be horrific!

The guilt should be horrific whether or not she thought it was her own apartment. And the charge the prosecutors are going after doesn't really change regardless of if what she claims is true or not.

The character assassination that the cops were heading towards after the fact was despicable too. Wow, they found traces of weed in his apartment. Why is that even worthy of note? Imagine sitting in your own living room watching TV, and someone comes in and assassinates you. The situation boggles the mind.

A man who came to the aid of others, in the best tradition of American civic duty, was needlessly killed. It's only fitting that he be remembered for his service to his community.

This is where it gets tricky. The mob will paint a different picture. I've discussed it many times in the past. But, that is society today. Meanwhile, the daily injustices that plague many more are never talked about.

Emantic Bradford deserves hero status. Any person who risks his or her life to protect others is a hero.

How his memory was treated after the fact by the agency was truly horrific and disgusting.

Mistakes happen in life. when you or your Department makes one. Stand up and do the right thing. It will all come out in court anyway and when it does. It costs you more.

The problem here is, it hurts an entire nation. It's just another nail in the coffin of race relations in this country.

Before you respond, I ask you to think for a moment and put yourself in the first responders shoes. You have no idea what the description of the incident was as transmitted over the police radio, whether or not there were descriptions of the individuals involved or any of the pertinent information that would allow you to say

Was this a tragedy, yes. Did the police handle the aftermath in the best way, probably not. But I can tell you from over twenty years experience in law enforcement in some of the worst neighborhoods in the country that a potential armed confrontation is the most difficult situation to handle. Police all over the country respond to these incidents daily without incidents. Do mistakes happen, of course they do, but police respond heroically day after day and make the ultimate sacrifice on a regular basis. To generalize an incident with such a provocative statement does no one any good!
