Why?

I hear people comment on Panerai. They say many things to defame the brand, like it's too large. Why? Hasn't it been that way with other established brands for some time (i.e. Bell & Ross, Breitling, etc)? It doesn't make sense to me?

Any comments on this?

My first line in my sig says it all. That and for some reason, especially owners of a certain brand seem to feel threatned by any other brand.

Different strokes for different folks. I stopp in my local AD yesterday, they are an AD for Panerai, Cartier, IWC, Chopard, Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin, and Bell & Ross, to name a few. I was picking up a new strap for my Pam and a guy and his wife were looking at the Cartier watches. He tried a few on and decided not to buy, so the sales person asked if there were any other brands he was interested in and he said "no I only like Cartier". Personally I would never buy a Cartier but if he likes them then that's his prerogative. Too many people get defensive though, and instead of just keeping their opinion to themselves they for some reason feel compelled to share their disdain towards the other. Let him have his opinion and I have mine and there is no reason to start belittling each others tastes. Plus I look at it this way, it leaves more Panerai's, B&R's, and IWC's for me to try on and contemplate buying later in the year.

My advice to you. Don't worry about what others think, if you like the watch then that's all that matters.

+1 But, unfortunately part of the reason people criticize other name brands is the lack of understanding. I know friends of friends, that didn't even know what a PAM was, let alone it's worth thousands. These are usually the old school name brand whores. The type of people that only want to wear very established name brands. Be it Cartier or Rolex, and belittle other brands that don't fit that criteria.

IE - That's like someone driving a Bentley and a Pagani Zonda F pulls up next to him and the Bentley driver thinks the Zonda F looks like cheap plastic. Even though you can probably buy 4 Bentleys with 1 Zonda F LOL

Mik out of interest- how often do you wear your sub now that you have a PAM and the GMT IIC?

I wear it often. Actually, I just wear my 111 at home only. I don't wear it out of the house as it is my wedding gift. That is good for me. After October, I'll wear it out and about.

I got the LV bezel for my sub to switch it up. I like it a lot. I'm trying to get a maxi dial (near impossible) and ss/pt YM hands (much easier than dial) to complete the conversion. I just don't want to sell my first Rolex.

I can understand how some people may not like larger watches and Panerai. I am trying to warm up to the AP Arnolds All Star which is a large watch and very nice but it just is not doing it for me. I just like the PAMs to much and the history to an extent appeals to me. It will be nteresting to see what the next few days bring.
