why I decided for Rolex instead of panny
I think panny's are very nice, but every time someone asks for the 40mm panny's every pan aficionado say's its no good, it's like a digital rolex, or a ferrari station wagon. so what was i going to buy? size?, and i really liked the 40mm gmt luminor pam 00244, but hey it would look odd, a 40mm panny is a no no according to 90% of the posts on the panny section, and for me 44mm is just cartoonish i could probablly wear it to go clubbin' or somehting but not everyday, it just has a lot of presence. another thing that bothered me is that I was going to pay big buck's for a movement found on watches that are not even remotely as expensive as panerai's. on another note, they are very very very nice watches, and i mean it, but for me, my very personal opinion Id have to buy every rolex i want before I put my money down for a panny.
Oh i bought a gmt IIc to compliment my sub and expy |

You have chosen...............WISELY!
And if you ever need to go "Clubbin", strap on a Pam. You won't need to carry the club wearing one of those beasts!! |

Excellent choice... Panerai isn't comparable to a Rolex IMHO. I would pick a Rolex over a Panerai everytime.

Come on guys, we all know Rolex is good and everything but you have to give credit to other companies too, and don't get me wrong I'm a Rolex guy like most of you here.
Panerai is not a bad watch like people seen to think, a lot of good companies use ETA movements too, when I get a watch I get it because I like the watch plain and simple not to please other people, when I got my Rolex I got a ton of negative reaction from people that I know, do you think I care? not at all in the end is my watch and my money.

I've stared at photos of Panerai watches until I'm cross eyed and I just can't learn to like them for some reason. They just don't float my boat like the beautiful, graceful lines of the Rolex.

I don't doubt their quality. It's the style that just doesn't agree with me.

This is my view too... Panerai makes a good watch. I'm a big Richemont fan and have bought a few watches from their stable - Montblanc, Cartier and IWC. However, Rolex makes a special watch that is so breathtakingly beautiful and rugged. Panerai is just so plain when compared side to side with a Rolex. I am eyeing a Milgauss or Daytona as my next... or maybe a Submariner or Yeachtmaster... I just don't know.

This is the rolex section. so my friend you did the right move, you joined the right forum and you posted in the right section. try posting this in the panerai section! All pro panerai members you know where your section is. Panerai is great but Rolex is Rolex in every corner of the world they know what a rolex is.

I buy watches that I like and not what anyone on this forum or any Panerai forum says. Here is my PAM 51 that just happens to be a 40mm that gets just as much wrist time as my GMT IIc or my Sub. I could give a rats a%$ what anyone thinks because it is me I have to please. I personally like the PAM 244 myself and if you do also and when the finances come go buy it and wear it with pride. I am getting off my soapbox now.........Thanks for listening.

If I wanted to buy watch with ETA movement, I'd buy Hamilton in a heartbeat.
I love their design. After getting Omega and Rolex, they are getting less of my wrist time, but they sure are awesome value for the money. Would I buy more Hamilton? Probably not, now that I tasted the forbidden fruit (Rolex). :p |

Too true mike
But the 44mm Panerai does seem to get much more favour with Paneristis. I went for a 44mm Panerai and I'm glad I did. The watch is however made out of titanium (PAM177) and that does make it a little more comfortable (at least for me) to wear.

Do we not hear what is coming out of our mouths regarding this? People are making their decisions on which watch to buy based on what others think and say. My PAM 51 is often seen in it's PAM49 form with colorful straps on women. Do you think this makes me a woman or sways the fact I like this particular watch? NO Lets buy what we like and wear what we like thats what makes all this fun or it does for me.....

You have to buy what you feel best wearing.
I have a 40mm panerai I wear regularly, along with a Daytona, or even a 47mm Panerai. They work for me. I think you bought the right one in this case. YOu would have always been second guessing yourself. Maybe for a second watch down the road.

Jean I buy my watches by their looks. I think it is all relative, we might look back fifty years from now and all the 40mm Panerai are the most valuable collector watch at the time. All this is pure speculation on the market. If I see a watch and I like it I will buy it if it is a good value no matter what the size or make. From the several Panerai I have the quality has justified the price I have paid and I am happy and sleep at night with my decisions. And always remember this is supposed to be fun.
