Help explaining "Open Warranty" and extending warranty.

Hi there all!

I was hoping someone would be able to explain what exactly an "Open Warranty" is, and how exactly one can extend the 2-year warranty to the 5-year warranty on an "Open Warranty" watch.

I assume it is only associated with timepieces purchased from Grey-Market/Un-Authorized dealers?

For example: I recently talked with a Grey-Market dealer about a ROO 26400SO (Discontinued) that is in Unworn-New condition, even has full stickers still. He claims that it was delivered in February of 2018 (J-Serial) and has the new-style card warranty. He also says the card has been activated and the watch is under the 2-year warranty, and can be registered by the purchaser to extend it to the 5-year warranty. Is this true/correct?

Any and all information is much appreciated!

The 2 year warranty technically began February 2018 so if you go online and register the watch, it will extend from that point, not the date you purchased it.

You will first need to create an account with AP. Once your account is created you can then register your timepiece using the warranty # on the warranty card. This will add that tomepiece to your profile with AP and extend the warranty out 5 years. Assuming the watch was originally sold new in February 2018, the 5 year warranty will start from originate date of purchase. If the watch was already registered and warranty extended to 5 years at time of original sale then the watch will just be added to your profile with the 5 year warranty already in place. Everything can be set up through AP from the address on the warranty card. Should you have any issues, call AP USA in Florida.

Yes, true. I recently bought a K series and original AD date was 10/2018. I registered and have five years to 10/2023.
