I found a full set, 2003 early Y serial Kermit in mint condition, some of the plastic is still on in. Everything checks out as a true anniversary piece. Wondering if it's a good "investment" buy to stash in a safe. Would run 20K. But what could it be worth in 2053? Could it be a Daytona type of auction piece? Thoughts?

Hard to say at $20k. Only thing to know for sure is that someone has made money on this one so far. Buying at $12-13k would make me feel better.

I agree. Just wait to see what they are selling 5-10 years from now. Best Buy one now or you will be paying double in a few years

Naahhh, Don't care if it's $30K, $50k in five years. I buy the watches I like for the enjoyment of wearing it, not investing or putting it in a safe, to hope and pray.
If you're an investor, buy the Rolex catalog and pray. Have fun. I'm going to buy and beat the crap out of my watches and hopefully enjoy and create so many great memories between now and 2053.

There are real investments, much better and solid for retirement. And if my children really care about dad, I could leave them a dry potato and they'd love and cherish it. I have some nice things they already want....
Hard cash would serve them better than a watch they'd have to find a buyer for and hope to not get ripped off in 50 years.
But everyone is an investor nowadays so go for it, just not my thing. He wanted opinions so...

I know the true 2003 is worth more but $20k? No thanks.

Buying a watch as an investment is a bad idea for 99% of watches. Period. A few will appreciate. Most wont. Even those that appear to be appreciating now may depreciate in the future. Buy it. Wear it. Enjoy it.

If you think at 20k it's good deal , then please buy it . And as to future investment value ,it's a bit like buying a lottery ticket & then asking a group of strangers if they think you have the winning numbers .

Nicely put CPR. Honestly, I tire of these, "is this a good investment?" questions. It's a watch, not a piece of art. It's 16610LV, which Rolex made for seven years. It's not Paul Newman's Paul Newman--which also may depreciate from the $17mill paid out. Who knows!!

Can I add , I'm not saying it's not worth the money , it's more is it worth the value to you . If you will get pleasure out of owning it then buy it , whether you wear it or not is a very personal experience . It will be your watch & do with it as you will . I bought mine for my 50th & could not be happier with it & wear it often as I associate with that milestone in my life . Good luck with whatever choice you make

Although I do like the watch, I would not buy the 20K one to wear and enjoy. I can grab one of the later releases for almost half (12ish I believe) for that. Was just thinking that it may be an "investment" piece. But many of you made good points. I appreciate it. So will let it go :) Thanks!

$20k. Hell yea. Unworn pieces goes for $35-40k in auctions. It will worth millions in 2053 if the planet still exists. Then again, the next generation of people might have no idea what a wrist watch is. Buy and wear it if you can afford it.
