Can't Decide on Beater
I want a beater, I work in oilfield sales and I have tore up a Superocean and now after 6 months I have scratched the crap out of my sub. Here are a couple watches that i'm looking at on watchzone and from my AD...
lemmie know what you think the first seiko is for 220.00, citizen for 240.00 luminox 277.00 and tag..... |

So three are chronographs and one is not. Three have dive bezels and one has a slide rule bezel. Are you looking for a chrono? Does it need to be quartz?

I do want a quartz, the rest is just up to looks for me. I have owned several of these brands before and I jsut went and picked out the four quartz's that I liked the best.
and yes I do dive but if I go with the seiko I will use my other seiko diver same with the citizen. |

Well, I'd just keep wearing the sub if you already beat the hell out of it.
there is something cool about a beat up sub. Vintagey (made up word) and it looks like the watch could tell stories. Buy a GMT IIc for weekends and wear the sub for work!

I really like the Bell & Ross Demineur "Bomb Squad" watches. Black or white dial, bracelet or rubber strap, quartz, under $1000.

if you want to go really cheap - check out the Casio Marine Ana-Digi Dive Watch
I have had one for almost 20 years now. under $60 on the internet. if you want the tag formula one chrono, PM me, I have been thinking of selling it. Great watch, but I am trying to get thin out my quartz collection. |

I like the Bell & Ross but it is a little to small for my wrist. The secret service one is nice though.

Three words: Seiko Orange (or black) monster. The Seiko Monsters simply cannot be beat for the money. Durable, affordable, looks great, comes with a bracelet or strap, an automatic, and a great everyday watch. I'm telling you from experience, these things can take a beating all day long, and still keep on going strong. Many members here swear by thier Monsters, and I'm proud to be one of them.
So, my vote goes to Seiko. |

I'd go with the Luminox - less stuff on it to break when you beat it up.

If you will consider an automatic, the MkII watches are superb. Many are very affordable.
If you must have quartz, I would recommend the Citizen Eco-Drive models. No battery replacement nonsense to deal with. |

I like the MkII watches, but I went online and "built" one on their website and it was over a grand. I am looking for a beater that I can replace every 6 months to a year.

There are quite a few in the $600 range. Besides, I doubt you'd need to replace them nearly so often...

My husband has a TT black face Sub, so his beater is an Invicta. First he went with the "Sub" "homage" watch (sorry, I don't know the model, it's a black face watch that essentially copies the Sub) and put it on a NATO strap. A couple of weeks ago he got an Invicta chronograph (it was an incredible deal on the internet, about $80) and also put it on a NATO. Both are quartz, which is good because they aren't used that often (just when his work takes him in a place a nice Rolex shouldn't go). The chronograph has a date feature, too. He wouldn't consider a NATO on a Rolex, but because the Invicta bracelet isn't as nice as a Rolex (one would hope not, given the huge price differential) the NATO strap makes them really good beater watches.

wow, well there is no way i would take a $30K watch on a rig for repair work. I busted up a $2400 Superocean so i'm sure a Daytona would get trashed.

Every so often, I can't help but chuckle a little. A grand for a "beater"? Shows how far I have to go.

That LUMINOX bezel looks like the WG ones they used to have on some of the OMEGA SMPs.
