What’s the most Marmite Rolex?

Before I start, for those not familiar Marmite is a spread normally used on toast. It’s made from yeast extract and you either LOVE it or HATE it. Seems like there’s no in between. The company actually advertises it as people being born a lover or hater. So in the U.K. if something is equally disliked as it’s liked we say it’s ‘marmite’.

So as to a marmite Rolex, I’d say the Daytona.

I’ve the white 116500 and it’s my favourite watch by far. But many of my friends just don’t rate it at all. They far prefer my other ones. I see that on different watch forums too. People tend to love it (hence it goes for top money in the grey marker) but many don’t like it at all, or think it’s over rated.

So anything else more marmite?

YMII is by far the most polarizing or Marmite-like in my opinion. It’s a grail watch to some, while others eloquently refer to it as the Clownmaster. I don’t think I have met someone in between...

Agree. Really dislike the YMII yet love every Rolex aside from that.

Looking at the YM is like listening to nails on a chalkboard or chewing on foil to me. The air king and Daytona I’m okay with...wouldn’t be my choice in their respective price brackets but I don’t hate em.

The 116500 white dial is definitely a favorite of mine too! From the many responses in threads and high demand for that one, it's apparent that most others love it as well. The black dial is definitely nice, but I personally prefer the white. Perfect analogy if I loved Marmite. :)

Now for the opposite. If I hated Marmite, the analogy in a Rolex watch for me would probably be anything iced out. I'm not a fan of ones completely covered in stones on the dial, bezel, case and bracelet. Much too blingy for my tastes! Maybe if I was a celebrity, then I might wear something like that.

I feel the Rolex that best approximates that spread is any of the watches with the older “bark” bracelets.

Given the love it or hate it nature of Marmite I think you could more accurately say “One man’s Marmite is another man’s Marmite.”

Milgauss seems to be a total love it or hate it affair even more so than the Air King.

It is probably the Daytona, it's the watch that most elicits opinions on it and they are fairly evenly divided for and against. I don't believe in 50/50 for marmite now, surely it's like 40/60 against esp with the SM generation and War rationing in the distant past.

Yacht master II by far, probably followed by the current AirKing and then the Milgaus.

Definitely LVC.

I love my one.
The wife hates it. (She doesn’t like green)

I would have thought it was the Air King 116900, but reading the other posts here is very interesting!

Another vote for the YM II. And I am on the «it’s stupid and hideous» side if it.

Considering how often I feel my love for the SubC is put to the test on this forum, I'm inclined to say it's the Supercase models. But I could be biased as a result of suffering from TRF PTSD.

Love the Marmite/Nutella comment. Seems to me Marmite is liked by about 50% and hated by about 50%. So in the Rolex catalog and for TRF, I am going to go Datejust 41. Some love it, some only want Professional models. It's a great watch, IMHO, but think that might be the answer. Some only like the 36mm version.
