GMT - Master II LN to be discontinued?

Visited my nearest AD here in the UK today to discuss joining the waiting list for a GMT - Master II LN. Overall very pleased with how the conversation went and was assured that I would have this reference "in a few months".

What did surprise me is that the salesperson had concerns that the LN reference may be discontinued following Baselworld 2019 as it's no longer featured in the 2018/19 catalogue. He's right - it isn't and he kindly gave me a copy to take home.

I've read about the BLNR going soon, but would be surprised about a classic like the LN.

Anyone else heard this, or is it just 'fake news'?

Likely fake news, Rolex is generally quite conservative with color so for them to go forward without a single colored bezel option for the GMT lineup would be very odd.

A great Rolex reference - I really enjoy mine.

Your AD, nor anyone outside of Rolex has even the slightest clue about additions or subtractions from the portfolio.

Fake news. That’s always been an option. No way that one is going. I would however hold off to see if there will be any changes. Praying for a return to the classic lug size with the ceramic bezel.

Lug size change would mean a wide-ranging change across all the GMTII SKUs. They would not just change the lug width on the LN whilst leaving all others the same.

Further, the newer GMTs - Pepsi and Rooter etc. have only just been released...

...but isnt that exactly what they have done with the new rootbeer & pepsi gmt's??

I was of the understanding that the jubilee bracelet from the new pepsi will not fit the existing blnr, therefore the lug widths must be different between the 2 versions of the same watch currently.

It would actually make more sense to change everything to the new version which kind of contradicts your statement.

I use my BLNR bracelet on the new Pepsi. I’ve not tried the new jubilee

A lug size change would be very odd considering the popularity of the current sizing. I prefer 5 digit cases but it seems like the general public doesn't have any issues with the current case sizes. I would love to see a change, I just can't see that being very likely.

I can’t see it happening either. But I respectfully disagree with the lug size. While it is popular, Rolex only gives one option. I wonder what people would choose if they had the option of more classic proportions? I also think if it were so popular, many other companies would be copying them. Other brands have copied Rolex relentlessly, not with the lugs. My guess would be that unless Rolex is printed on the dial, likely not so popular.

Rolex dont put every single model they produce in the brochure - just a few examples from each range.

Have you seen how many versions of the Datejust there are on the website?

The brochure would have to be like an encyclopedia to include everything.

Having said that the SD4K WAS in the 2017 brochure, but as we all know was discontinued the same year to make way for the SD43.

Based on that, even if a reference IS in the brochure, does'nt mean its safe!

With Rolex anything is possible - dont believe anything you hear & only half of what your read..... Basel19 is only around the corner. We shall find out soon enough...

There is no chance a GMT LN in SS is going away from the catalog. I'd bet the ranch on that.

The current reference may very well likely be discontinued because they will be putting the new caliber 3285 inside. I do think that will happen this year.

If it's not in the catalog, my guess is that a 126710LN might take its place. My opinion is that Rolex would keep the LN as a staple, while the BLRO and CHNR would be available for those who want a splash of color. Maybe we'll also get an RONR as a happy surprise if the BLNR goes away.

Strangely enough, an AD I have bought from sent me an unsolicited copy of a Rolex catalog and price list, which dropped on the doormat this morning. No BLNR, no Milgauss, nor either Explorer featured. Or SS Skydweller.

The catalog means nothing, Rolex produced many different versions of their catalogs. The GMT LN is still featured in the Rolex website. That’s what matters.

IMHO your AD is just speculating. Everyone is sure 116710LN will transform itself into 126710LN but no one knows precisely when. Most likely it will be either in 2019 or 2020. Personally if you ask me, there is 30% chance for your AD to be precise making that forecast.

I think the 116710LN will become 126710LN this year. It will have the new movement in and it will loose the green writing as well as the green GMT hand. All white lettering and red GMT hand.
