Trade in Daytona for Royal Oak

Bought an 116520 Rolex Daytona in black. Fairly new 2014 in very good condition. I have always been a Rolex guy and thought it would be my grail watch. After wearing a Submariner all these years the Daytona looks small on the wrist with the silver bezel and I find myself scared to scratch it with all the chrome. I was considering a trade in on a recently discontinued Royal Oak white/silver dial. It seems more of a day to day watch and I don't like any of the new release (black or charcoal) AP's so it might be my last chance at obtaining a Royal Oak in new condition. Any thoughts on durability and watch comparison from the experts? Thanks in advance for the advice!

I would definitely do it, if I were you. But make sure that you have tried on the AP first.

I will say that Daytona looks great on your wrist. One issue, in my view the AP, including the bezel in particular, is going to be less durable than the Daytona. So if you're worried about dinging or scratching the Daytona bezel, you might find the AP far worse...

That's interesting I would have thought the Rolex looks more chromed in the bezel. Appreciate the perspective.

I would trade a 520 for a Royal Oak. The Royal Oak is simply stunning and my favourite watch

That Daytona looks great on you IMO. That said, it’s whatever you want that matters and the AP is a lovely watch.

I think you'll be more worried about the royal Oak than the daytona

But it's a good trade....

That said it's a relatively wearable rugged watch for a very fussy easily scratched less sporty one

Although, I suppose both bezels are scratched easily... It's just the ap will cost more to restore I bet

That's always an option too. Think I would like the Daytona as a formal watch. Thanks for the input,

If you don't feel the love do it. I recently got my first AP and am loving it.

I had a daytona, been wearing larger watches. I never wore it because it was too small. What a beauty.

I had both, let me break it down for you with my opinions:
Looks: AP wins easily, I have not seen anyone wearing an AP when I go out in the past 5 years, but I've seen plenty of Daytonas. The AP just has a unique/cool look.
Fit: the Daytona fits better for me because my wrist is only 6 inches, so the AP flared out a bit more on my wrist and doesn't wrap around as securely as the Daytona.
Durability: although I didn't have any issues with my RO, but I've heard/read stories about people having issues with the bracelet. Depending on the series, the screw on the release button of the clasp would fall out and they had to send it in to AP to get it fixed.
I would take the AP over the Daytona, just my opinion.

Yes, maybe not for the D500 but for the 520 for sure.

If you’re worried about bezel scratches stay away from the AP. If you can live with a few and be careful then I’d definitely make the trade

The bracelet on the RO is truly a work of art

Thanks for the breakdown! Very helpful understanding pros and cons of the models. I would imagine servicing is not the easiest with limited AP distributors that's a good point.

I have a 15400OR and it is a way more delicate piece than a Daytona IMHO. But if you are just daily wearing it in normal environments and nothing sporty or out of the ordinary I have never felt there were any issues. I just feel like it is not as solid as a Rolex and instinctively try to protect it more.

Oh, the Royal Oak bezel and watch as a whole is a scratch magnet lol

I wouldnt make a trade unless it was specifically towards a 15202st or a 15407st. Your daytona is nice inwould keep it. Its more wearable

Good move IMo, but the bezel concern will still be there

I would never trade a Rolex for an AP. That's just me. I don't like the looks of any AP I've seen.

Go for the AP RO. The finishing is on another level from what you’ve experienced with Rolex.
Yes, the bezel does show scratches, but it develops a patina and these really are daily wear watches.

I considered a A.P when trading out of the daytona, but went for a jlc . Dont consider durability as not everyone is ding heavy lifting. If you look down and the watch does not bring you joy. Make another selection.
