Saw a pic of the prototype for the upcoming 42mm ROOC blue dial/titanium

Question for the board: I know most here prefer CE bezels for obvious reasons (scratch Resistance). But do these titanium bezels really scratch that all that much ??
Any real world experience with them in terms of how they scratch relative to SS bezels? Or if they show as much as SS ?

Below is a pic of the prototype I was sent today of the new blue dial 42mm ROOC
I absolutely love it from the pic. But I also really like the grey ghost a lot ...... and the ghost has the see through case back and ceramic bezel, along with the ceramic pushers ..... all pluses over the new blue dial titanium.
But the blue dial Titanium with the grey/silver sub dials just looks so damn good...... to me, it has the better looking dial between the two.

Let the debate begin on which of these watches people prefer:

The only two things I like more about the blue watch is that it has the style of pushers that I (and most people) prefer and in a manageable 42mm case which is rare. Secondly it is thinner due to the F Piguet movement.

On the grey ghost I prefer the ceramic bezel, display case back, and design. Movement quality is a toss up......do you prefer a display case back or do you prefer a thinner watch?

It is a very close call for me.

Ultimately I think the tie breaker will come down to price and availability. I do not think that the grey ghost is too difficult to get if you try. Based on what people are saying it will be nearly impossible to get the blue one......which will mean dumb grey market prices for 2-3 years at least. So unless you have an amazing AD relationship or money to burn I would go for the grey ghost.

If we take availability and cost out of the equation I probably still pick the grey ghost by the smallest of margins because as others have stated the dial on the blue watch seems a bit cramped and out of proportion when compared to the bezel....however this may not be an issue in person. Finally, people seem to not like the minute and hour hand on the blue one....but I don't mind them.

I think I have touched on most of the talking points on these watches.

All good points. I actually don't mind the skeletonized hands on the blue dial

You're right--it's going to be very hard to get, but as of now, I've been told I will get one this year (so we will see). Going the AD route will be tough for most people -- most AD's may get 1 if they're lucky.

My thought is that I will get the blue and if I don't love it, I can always sell it and get the GG at that time. As you said, the ghost is not that hard to get.

From that pic, I think the blue dial looks amazing against the grey sub dials and titanium bezel/case.

Even Grade 5 Ti will suffer acratches, but due to the inherent properties of the material, they will look less obvious over a period of time, as a reult of the exposed metal oxidising.

Like the new hands on the prototype, don’t like magnified dates, ambivilent about date at 4:30, prefer numerals to batons on a ROO, and the oblong pushers.

Thanks-- this is sort of what I thought. And that the titanium bezel will 'hide' the scratches a bit better by allowing them to blend in a bit better c/w SS.

I wanted to add that I think neither watch is worth it for 30k usd personally. If the grey ghost comes down to 22.5k that is probably the max I would pay for the addition of the ceramic bezel. I mean honestly....davidsw asking 30k for a grey ghost and you can get a lovely elephant or safari etc. For 17k preowned like new if you take the time to look.

Agreed. 30k is significantly more than a 44 ti, forged carbon or stainless and puts you in shooting range of some more expensive ultra cool 44s (because let's face it .... if you are going to drop 30k...). I am not even talking about other nice 42s, including oldies such as Panda or Bumble Bee or even fc or ceramic Diver. Hell, for 30k I'd get a rose gold SkyDweller.

It is a nice watch but not THAT nice.

Personally, I think the whole industry and market went insane.

Yes the whole market has gone insane. It is time to buy other brands for great prices and ignore the likes of Patek AP and Rolex until shit settles down.

Look for great deals on vacheron, breguet, Lange, etc. Because they are out there like they always have been.

I agree, it's really crazy when you think about it. I mean there are so many great options out there and everyone is bunched up over a couple of brands and a few of their offerings.

It has gone insane, and continues along that crazy train trajectory

The new blue dial is going to be $28K and there won't be any discounts. I think it will hold value pretty well given the anticipated demand and limited supply.
The grey ghost is $27,700 and I don't think it will hold its value as well as the blue dial, but I also don't think it will tank the way ROO models have done in the past, b/c of the new world order of AP with limited supply/distribution.

I guess we will see.

Agreed, I bought a new Ti44 3 months ago for $24,300 - can’t see spending $30k for this grey ghost?

I have the Grey Ghost and I may add the new Ti ROO in blue if/when it ever becomes available. Blue and grey are my favorite colors!

Love the dial and pushers on the blue 42.
The main hands, not so much.
