Can I have a shoulder to cry on???
As of this week, my Rolex watches will be gone.
The Daytona is sold, and my Submariner has a pending offer. And the Datejust I wanted? Not right now. Gone too are the tube amplifiers and our "never gonna sell 'em" speakers. My wife needs the money for her start-up business. A little background: I moved across the country in order to get a better paying job, so that she could quit her day job and just focus on her business. Don't get me wrong, I was happy to do it. I adore my wife. Naturally, I didn't hesitate to put everything up for sale when she asked. I know how hard it was for her to make that request of me. Of course, if the business takes off, I'll be able to replace these things. But it stings a little, as you all can imagine. I happen to like the feeling of seeing a Rolex on my wrist...it makes me smile. OK, I'm done whining. And thank you for your ear.

Yeah, it does suck but I look at the sale as an investment in your future. If nothing else, it demonstrates your solid relationship to your wife. When the business makes bank, you can cash in some chips for new toys.

You are doing the right thing Boa, and make sure you stick around the forum. It is a very noble thing for you to do, and I'm sure your wife loves and appreciates you very much for being so giving. Good things happen to people like you, it's all about karma. I look forward to the day when you are posting a thread showing us you new Rolex, the day will come soon I hope.

Howard
I have just been catching up with some of the posts and nearly missed yours. I just like to wish you both good fortune, with your wife's business venture. And I hope that in the not to distant future, you are rewarded with another Rolex sitting upon your wrist.

I think all of us hit bumps in the road throughout our lives, and Rolexes will be around forever! Once things become stable again, you will once again get the watch of your choice (Rolex Of Course), and will love it even more!
Good luck, and look ahead, not behind………. Matt

Don't worry about it because next time around you will have better and shinier things. Your wife is lucky to have someone as understanding as you.

Thank you all for the very considerate responses. I know my wife will also really appreciate them.
Truth is, if her business takes off as much as we think it will, we'll be buying Rolex...the company.

We know that feeling. My parents lost thier house, and cars back in 2006, and in turn to help them out, I sold my first and only Sub (a SS Sub Date) I bought in 2002. Sure it does suck, but look on the bright side, you both have your health, and can most likely get another in the future. Same with me, just keep your head up, and you'll get everything back. |

Hang in there, my friend. I have started 2 businesses and gone through rough times, but in the end everything works out. The MOST important thing is that you are both there to support each other. Believe me, it is a beautiful feeling to buy that Rolex when your business hits your first sales goal.

WOW - I love material things, who doesn't? But there are def much more important things in life. I dont think your wife knows how lucky she is, seriously. It must have been so hard to ask these things of you - and you fully complied. Kudos to you my friend, may you be a role model to myself and many other married men out there. This is the epitome of marriage, together as one. And you my friend have done exactly so - something very hard to find these days.
Hang in there, I know this IS a watch forum, but seriously its JUST A WATCH. I hope and wish that your wife's start-up is FULLY successful and that you can one day get the Daytona back!! Good things comes to those who wait, and karma will come back around to reward you for being who you are. Good luck and be well. |

Late to this one and sorry. Doing the right thing is good. Doing the right thing for others is great. Doing the right thing for the one you love....not sure I have the words for that wonderful act.

Howard, you seem like a wonderful person and I have NO DOUBT that you will own another Rolex when the time is right!
As the others have said, in the end, what is truly most important (as you know), is your health and relationship with your spouse and family. A watch is a watch is a watch...... Most of us here have been through tough times and while it's not always fun to 'sacrifice', it's life. Wishing your wife all the best in her business endeavors! Hang in there! |

That's quite a sacrifice; I could never do it. I'd go homeless before I go Rolex-less.
