Wearing a particular watch less to make it feel more special?
As the title indicates, I was curious if anyone here has certain watches in their collection that could be worn daily but in the spirit of keeping a sense of occasion about them are shelved more than worn?
I just got a SS AP RO of my own and I feel like I want the first occasion I wear it to be special. To give an analogy that might put it into perspective, I had a Porsche that I daily drove and it quickly stopped feeling as special. Once I retired it to weekend use, it started being a more memorable occasion every time I drove it. I don't think cars are a 1:1 analogy as it pertains to watches, but I thought I'd start this discussion and see how many different personality types we get. For the record, I'm hoping to make the AP RO my daily watch over the sports model Rolexes I currently have. |

I personally rotate my watches every 2-3 days, and I have enough pieces to keep things fresh. Some watches will come out of the safe once a month and those tend to feel like a new experience each time :) BTW I also do the same with my cars. I have my daily drive but keep the toys for weekends, which definitely makes it a fun experience each time I get behind the wheel |

Completely agree with this, I used to rotate my watches every 2-3 days as well but feel that it's just too short to enjoy the individual pieces. I now rotate them every 1-2 weeks with the occasional weekend pieces and it works well to reduce the "mundane-ness"

I do that. I have a large collection so many watches are stored away in safe places and I will like have 8 to 10 pieces at any time for rotation. I will bring them out to wear like after a few months in storage so that it feels "fresh" again.
I don't have any watch that I can wear for any prolong period of time with the recent exception of my new Omega Seamaster. Generally speaking, I tend to wear my "workhorse" watches like my Seamaster, my Rolex, my Seikos during work and my more expensive one much less so depending on occasion and generally speaking during weekends. Yeah.. I know, it doesn't make sense.

I bought them from AP Boutique. You need special tools to swap straps for Offshore. I usually ask either APSC or my local AD to do it.

This is such a great collation of shots !! I think the white strap is the best looking with the black dial. A very cool summer option.

I typically wear a watch a day - it is rare to wear the same watch every day. With about 10 watches, it keeps it fresh.
However I would say that the more expensive dressy pieces (like my 3970) sometimes get skipped since I may not want to wear such an expensive out. |

I wear my SS most days now so when I whip out a PM it feels extra special and you get that luxurious weight hit too.

I wear my Apple Watch during the week so every time I wear either of my APs I feel like a million bucks!

I think I’m the complete opposite. The more I use things the more special they become to me.
Some of my favourite things are those I’ve had for many many years and are fully worn in / fixed multiple times. A very big reason why I like high quality goods. They are more likely to last and be repairable should they ever need it. I definitely get what you mean though about waiting for a special occasion to first wear it. After picking up my diver I hung onto it for a while until the right annual occasion came round. Over a year in and I still enjoy strapping it on as much each day as at the beginning.

I wouldn’t say I do it on purpose, but certain watches definitely get saved for “special” occasions (in quotes because it could just be a Tuesday when I wake up feeling good). My SS Jumbo is definitely one of them. It’s really one of my favorite watches, but I only wear it once in a while... maybe I’m subconsciously afraid wearing it all the time would ruin the charm!

I'm also the opposite of most here. The more I wear something "special" the more I like it. If I start liking it less, I know it's not a keeper.
It does make it hard to find the right stuff though.... But to me more satisfying in the end. Life's too short not to enjoy nice things! |

I guess I’m indifferent. I have watches I wear more than others and they feel special. I have some that I wear less and they feel special also. I guess the ones that eventually don’t feel special regardless of wrist time end up leaving the collection. My problem now is every watch I own I truly love and can’t part with.
