Pullin the trigger on DJ41

Hello everyone,

I am going to pull the trigger on my first Rolex, I’m owning a Seamaster and a Zenith El Primero right now

I am between the Blue and Rhodium dial, such a tough choice since no AD has them available here, so its really hard to pick one :(

Also I’m going for the fluted version with the jubilee most likely


What I worry about the most is that the blue one might not work well with black blazer or black shirt? What do you think?

My blue DJ41 looks great whenever I wear black shirts or sweaters. I highly recommend the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. That’s what I have and I absolutely love it.

You really can’t go wrong between those two. Nice choices. Rhodium is perhaps more classic and elegant, while blue adds a touch of color and sportiness.

I think the rhodium goes well with more clothing options but that Blue Dial is stunning. If it were me I'd go with the blue dial.

I’d go blue dial.....Rolex does outstanding with their blue dials.

It's a great watch for sure. I think the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet make it a classic. I like the blue, black, and dark rhodium dials the most. Can't really go wrong.

By the way, the bezels can be replaced? If you get the smooth one can you replace it with the fluted?

You can replace it with the fluted bezel but an OEM fluted bezel will be hard to find. Rolex will not sale you one or switch it for you because the models have different reference numbers.

You can however get an aftermarket fluted bezel but it wont be the same white gold Rolex uses, color will be different and will change color over time.

OP, you're thinking right. Fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet.

I'm also thinking of a DJ. I love the blue but it kind of limits you on what you're wearing (clothes).

My first choice is the Rhodium dial--it goes well with everything.
#2 Silver dial for a very clean and classic look.
#3 White dial for the same reason. Very versatile.

For me, with the jubilee and fluted, rhodium is the way to go. IMHO, the dark blue adds another element competing for attention on an already busy watch, while the rhodium helps make the overall watch a really nice complete package. I’d go for the blue if fluted on oyster, or smooth on jubilee.

Check this post of DJ41 with blue dial, fluted bezel and jubilee. I can’t seem to post the pic on this thread. I can tell you, the Jubilee feels amazing. The blue dial sparkles in the sun. It’s gorgeous and I have received many compliments.

I was able to compare both side by side and the dark rhodium starts to look a little too subtle. The blue here really makes it pop a little. And I wear jeans, shorts, suit. It really goes with anything.

DJ41 is a solid choice and will last a lifetime. Blue dial with fluted bezel on the jubilee. Amazing!

Today I went and tried the dark rhodium on a smooth bezel and oyster

Sadly there was no blue to try. But I think the dark rhodium seems a bit boring and looks more like silver

Yes, it goes fine. You can wear the blue DJ with any color suit. I promise.

I'd go blue. Rolex is really good with blue dials and I like the contrast more with the blue dial than the rhodium. I still like the rhodium though, just prefer the blue.

Also, I think we obsess too much with matching our dial colors with shirt colors. Things don't have to all match. Especially since a watch is an accessory and there is nor rule that accessories have to match shirts/coats.

First and foremost - kudos to you going with the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. Everyone has their own preference on DJ configurations, but that is definitely my favorite.

I think both the blue and rhodium dials are pretty versatile and can easily be dressed up and down. I would personally go with the blue -- but that's solely out of preference. I think the 41mm with blue dial, fluted bezel, and jubilee bracelet is a stunning watch.

I really love the blue tbh. What i worry about is the situation of having to wear it with a suit, other than that, i would get blue all the way

In general i like matching blue and black, but I don’t know if a watch dial will match a suit

I understand where you're coming from. I can respect the argument that the rhodium dial is more of a chameleon that can blend into whatever outfit you're wearing and not clash with other colors. You could make the same argument about black and white for that matter (although I think white dials tend to give Rolex watches a totally different, clean look). That being said, we are talking about blue here (a beautiful, sunburst dial blue at that) -- it's not green, purple, or some other "odd" color. I think the rich blue dial on the DJ goes with most things and don't see it creating any more conflict when wearing a suit than if you're wearing a rhodium dial. Only time I would pass on wearing it is with a tux, where I would opt for a leather-band dress watch instead.
