I have a little cash burning a hole in my pocket. I'd like to buy a used sub but can't find any kind of price guide. The only thing I've found is this out of date guide from 2005:

I'd love a plastic crystal 5513, but think it's a bit out of my price range. I know that if I don't buy one soon, I'll never be able to afford one. I am interested in a 16600, 16610 or a 14060.

A couple of years ago, I stumbled upon an mint Explorer II at a pawn shop. It came with box, green sticker and manual. It was too good of a deal to pass up...waaay too good.

With the economy the way it is, I'll bet some pawn shops are flush with subs. Like my classic cars, I will be using the watch. So, one with a bit of wear and tear is ok with me, but I prefer one that it is all original. Can someone please give me an idea about fair pricing on the above mentioned watches.

I found a 14060M Y serial on for $3550. That seems like it's too cheap. It comes with the boxes, hang tag, bezel protector, polishing cloth, sub anchor, and all papers.

Do a search for the 14060M on the sales section. You'll see what people are asking for them, and you can conclude they probably sold within a hundred or two of the asking price. Check Timezone sales corner also. This should give you a good basis to start.

i passed on a 14060 for $3000 flat... local as well through a collector..

ended up with my new GMTIIc... in my opinion, with price increases expected and all the new changes to the watch, it was worth buying new. even if i only got about 15% off retail...

that being said, if i had already had this watch, or had access to another $3000, i would grab the suby in a second, but i think right around $3000 is good now adays for one of that model.. wait a year and it will go up to about $3500 again i think

It's safe to say that you can find Subs in the 3's out there. With the new arrival or soon-to-be new Submariner; it will drop in prices and probably go up depending on the public's reaction to the new Subs, whatever Rolex releases in regards to materials/metals this year. There is just no love for the white gold and gold Subs but once the SS hits the stores, you can expect the money used on a new 16610 would be put towards the new Sub.

As you can already tell, most people that purchase a new Rolex in here, have been newer models. When someone buys a new GMT, it's the ceramic model. New vs old? The new line up just makes purchasing the watch more satisfactory than the older models especially in terms of price.

Thanks for the feedback. I like to peruse Fleabay to see asking and selling prices. The subs I am interested in with asking prices starting at like $4K just sit there. The ones that sell are ones with much lower starting prices. These seem to be selling for around $3K. Your feedback helped to confirm that.
