does anyone know what years (serials) did the hole'd cases end for each model? i notice no holes cases for each model around different times but since i lack knowledge of pre 00' rolex im not sure when they stopped the holes case for the no holes cases.. the holes cases seem much more secure as the spring bars look almost "bulletproof" as in much more sturdy..

Lug holes ended somewhere around late Y serial for the Sub Date. Not sure about the GMT II, maybe the same?

I have a Y serial SS Sub date. I prefer lug holes for the more sporty/tool look.

Lug-holes look aweful.

Best thing Rolex ever did was do away with them for much of their sports line.

The watches look stronger and more refined without them.

Now all Rolex has to do is get rid of them on their ND Sub.

Then the circle will be complete.

I wish I could find a easy way to take off the
bands on the no lug cases....

It is always a pain in the butt for me so I rarely change it.

Lug holes, the original...and my favorite by far. Not only does it make removing the bracelet a million times faster, but I do recall hearing that the springbars are a bit stronger than those on the no lug hold cases.

The "holed casings" provide longer spring pin - i believe its a full mm of length longer (per side) which imho IS superior to the shorter pin penetration for the clean cased vns. ROLEX would no doubt say they are just as strong, but the dimension speaks for itself and provides not only strength but fn'ality for quick removal/replace. LONG LIVE HOLED ROLEXs !

Well I'm much more of a fan of the case lugs with holes, esp. for the sports line...they are [were??] designed as tool watches after all
(plus it sure does make changing the bracelet a breeze).

Have you agree with you lug holes in many ways are better,but less drilling time for every case, equals more production time to make more cases.

I'm holy too. Well, in the lug hole sense.

The biggest reason for me is all the benefits the holes supply and I never even notice them.

Can anyone answer Riley's question? I'd like to know as well.

For me it´s easy.

Toolwatch = lug holes
Dresswatch = no lug holes

Or why noy get a set of those?

I think its still the same set up except that for the clean cases you NOW have to set a DEPTH setting so you dont poke thru - this means MORE set-up time required...
Actually, once its set-up, its press "start" and forgeddaboudit !
Besides the "holed case" set up hasn't been in the "line" for years.
I wish they'd bring it back.

I am all for the holes on a sport model and without on a dress. I heard of someone who actually drilled out their new Sub so they had the holes. Don't think I would go that far..
