Good Reason To Start Drinking and Smoking...
Before I say anything, I want to emphasize this thread is NOT in ANYWAY meant to degrade those TRFers that have posted their commitments to end extremely unhealthy habbits like drinking and smoking, with all my heart, I commend you guys and wish you nothing but success in these difficult endeavors. I think buying a Rolex is a fantastic way of rewarding yourselves, and you definitely deserve it!
I just got to thinking though... I'm a non-drinker and smoker, why can't I get in on quitting these habbits so I can buy a new Rolex! So, let's see... if I start smoking... oh, two packs a day... that's $5.00 each isn't it? So that's..... no.. don't help me... that's $300 a month or... $3,600 a year! And... heck, I'll start drinking ... mine as well start drinking heavy so I'll buy... $400 a month on alcohol... so that's... $4,800 a year right!? OK, so now I quit.... HEY, Look at all the money I just saved! So.. right now! I've already saved enough for that GMT I wanted! You know what!?!?!? This could be my big chance! I'll start drinking and smoking twice as much and then I can afford that TT Daytona!! See you guys, I'm off to the AD.... P.S. Hmmmm.... that seemed too easy... where is my $16,800 I should have by just quitting? |

I think you missed the point. The idea is to cut down on your current expenses and direct the money towards a watch. If you're not incurring those expenses in the first place, then you can't cut down on them.
Since you're a non-drinker and non-smoker, you can save money by cutting down on other kinds of expenses. Maybe you can stop buying gas for your car and take the bus!

Ok, here's the deal.
Start smoking 6 packs a day for one week. Convince yourself you are now a smoker. 6 packs a day = 30$ per day. 30$ X 365 = 10,950$ Quick smoking! Go buy a Daytona or two of the less expensive models. Rejoice! You have quit smoking and you now have a fine timepiece or a couple of them. Then............. Start drinking. 1 bottle of Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac per day. At 2 million $ per bottle that is 2 million$ per day. Drink only for one day. (I personally can't afford more than that. I am thinking that you can't either, but I may be assumptive. Forgive me if I am). Convince yourself you are now a impoverished drinker! 2 Million $ per day x 1 day = 2 million $. Quit drinking. Sell the bottle for 1.75 million $. They are dipped in 24k gold and sterling platinum and the bottle is adorned with 6,500 brilliant cut diamonds by its designer, jeweler Jose Davalos. Go buy a minimum of 150 Rolex's of your choice! Rejoice!!! You have quit smoking and drinking and will be content for the rest of your natural life! EASY!! The only catch is you will need to fly to Dubai to buy a bottle of it. But what is the price of a plane ticket to Dubai in the equation of lasting earthly happiness? Life is GOOD!

There's another thing that can save you money and get you that Rolex that much faster.
Break up with your girlfriend! Saves tons I tell ya! No joke! I'm basing these on expenses accrued over the past seven years. Dropped mine over 2 years ago and I'm putting away an extra $400 a month. Ran into my ex about 6 months ago. Her job was surplused and she had an offer on the table to take a lower-position at her company with less pay, or take a severance package and leave. I told her it was nice seeing her and goodluck. She's 38 years old now, with nothing on the ball. Man am I glad I dropped her!!!!!! Sarging is easier and cheaper. Most of these young things can be bought with a McDonalds cheeseburger. I'm on the verge of buying an SDDS! |

One should be so lucky as to have a girlfriend. Getting rid of a wife might not be that rewarding

hmmm.... I know people that could by a really nice Rolex (or PAM)...
just by quitting their Starbucks habit... Me, I have a Diet Coke habit - probably good to quit and could probably by a Rolex - just might take a little longer...

Just humor Tommy, there were a lot of guys who had said if they quit smoking/drinking/dumped their girlfriends they were proving how much money they would save, they could buy another Rolex! In one of the chat rooms a bunch of us said we'd have to START drinking and smoking to be able to QUIT to save the money... Yeah, I probably didn't write it well. If you were one of those that commited to dropping one of those habbits no offense intended and I sincerely wish you well.

Why stop with a Rolex? Why not lose millions to gambling addiction and then recover so you can retire early? This is a ridiculous post.
