16800 bezel pearl

I've just acquired 16800 with serial# in 8.2M range (and this is my very first Rolex). This 16800 was originally purchased by my father in '84 from AD in CA. I've noticed that bezel pearl on this watch is brownish instead of usual white. I've seen this brownish colored pearl (on Submariner and Sea Dweller) on E-bay as well as various Rolex info sites. Is this brownish color due to a aging? Any info is appreciated.

Just to clarify, the 'pearl' you refer to is actually a small capsule of luminous material. Older luminous material did funky things when it aged. It might help to clean the spot with a small dab of jewelry cleaner on a soft cloth.

Thanks for the many great comments. I like the looks of the "patina" too and I'll keep it as is.
