Hong Kong Watch-Hopping

In HK for the weekend and passed through Tsim Tsa Tsui to check out the market.

Offered a 10% discount on the new grand Seikos, but they're a little thick on the wrist for me. Plus money spent on GS is less for Rolex.

The YM blue that I am after is offered above retail despite the release of the new model. Would rather be patient and buy new from an AD, if ever possible. Sales people in secondary market disagree that the price for 116622 should fall given 126622 release. One ever tried to tell me I was mistaken about the 126622 existing.

A few sellers got behind closed doors after a number of beers, threw a dart at a list of prices and that become the BLNR's new price they all stuck to. Somehow that is what they are now "worth", but none or very few have yet actually sold at those prices. The new Rolex "game" is to make a price and just hold on to the watch until it sells at that price.

Also, OP thanks for sharing pics

Indeed. Way too much. If I wanted one I could go to my AD, let them know I want one, and wait for it to arrive at msrp.

Hong Kong is a traditional market; we've had Rolex ADs here since the 1930s. That's longer than the USA

Rolex was in 1980-90s hong kong gangster movies... in fact just look at any movie back then in HK, you will see rolex almost in every one of them.

if you have been to HK back then, you see them everywhere. HK has been Rolex's land of fortune since day 1!!!

There are 8 Rolex ADs within half a mile of all of that lot. The new watches go straight out the back door and into the grey windows.

That’s right. Distribute those references in bulk to greys to let them deal with the tourists and plebeians squabbling over relatively low dollar items..

The AD has much bigger fish in the pond to feed.

Hong Kong Watch-Hopping

Looks like Aladdin’s cave!

Am going to be there at Xmas - I note that the prices are above the market price there but is there room for negotiation?

I see the IWC can be reduced from $HK34k to $HK28k so is this what we can expect on Rolex too?

and watches from there end up here sometimes. I brought my NIB OP 39 from a grey here in Japan that had been sourced from a Hong Kong AD.

Takes about 72 hours from an AD sale in Europe to the watch sitting in one of these windows. I’ve done it once but think I’ll try different route for next round.

Discounts of about 10% on most prepwmed from sticker prices in the pictures. Except Daytona and BLNR.

Offered a blue 116622 pre owned at HKD75k but no papers was suspicious for a such a young watch.

Great pictures. I have always wanted to see the watch markets like these in person but doubt I will ever make it to HK.

What a great weekend to be in Hong Kong. World Rugby Sevens just wrapped up the HK leg. Congratulations to Fiji for yet another win in Hong Kong. Good showing by the U.S. team, garnering a third place finish. Big step for U.S.A. Rugby.

Wow! Rolex watches wrapped in plastic, yeah that just “screams” exclusivity!

The only “shortage” seems to exist with only Authorized Dealers.

Thanks for sharing OP.
