AD insists I bundle to buy sub date

I'm on vacation in Europe, I've been doing my usual visits to AD's along the way. I found a aub date but the AD wont sell unless I buy another piece worth 3-4k, not a Rolex. What's the general consensus with regards to this form of blackmail these days?

Buy them both then return the one that you don't need

I find it annoying, but at the same time I don't have any ill will towards ADs for doing that.

My guess is also that it would be more common in areas with a lot of non-local clientele, where there would generally be less people establishing long term AD relationships. Gotta milk the customer for whatever they can during what may be that customer's one and only visit.

I don't blame.the AD either, it's a golden opportunity for him.to shift another piece. It's my moral compass that's struggling, same reason I wont go grey. Unfortunately it seems that is the only way to get the most sought after pieces now. So annoying when is genuine collectors struggle.

I did walk but its tempting to walk back!

If it was as easy as just just return one then I'd do that, unfortunately unless its coverd by distance selling regulations then it's not going to be so simple.

There are no regulations or laws against this. A Proprietor has the right to present their goods for sale as they choose.

Of course, nothing wrong with picking up a nice tennis bracelet or string of pearls with your watch.

Contact the local constabulary and ask for an officer to be present during the extortion attempt.

^^^^^^ this.

Also call Rolex and name and shame the dealer. Heck, name and shame them here too.

NAME AND SHAME may be the only way Rolex and other dealers realize they WILL BE named and shamed.

Walk away and talk to your local AD.

Mine got me a SS Sub Date in less then 2 months once I expressed an interest.

Get the ffff out and let some other sucker fall for it. Unless of course they have another piece you want, then why not?

It’s bs...the only thing that may work is if you genuinely wanted to buy 3-4K worth of jewelry.

I'd pass. To be honest, I don't blame the AD for trying that move on you though. SS Subs are harder to get these days, especially for first time customers who want it as their first Rolex (not saying that's you). AD probably got the sense you were a visitor (and not a local) and thought he could get an extra sale out of you by bundling. Worst that can happen is you walk away and he calls up someone local who is waiting for the watch. That person will be very happy to get the call and is more likely to buy something else from the AD in the future after that.
