Only took 1122 days ...
I am happy and excited to finally say I have been able to add the unicorn to my collection and it only took 1122 days (not complaining).
A little history ... On March 16, 2016, I called my AD (previously purchased my BLNR) and asked to be placed on the Daytona list requesting the White dial. I was told I was the second person that called in but that could change, as I had to come in to place a deposit as they would not take a CC over the phone. So six days later I was on a flight to the AD and placed a $1,000 refundable deposit; now moving down to forth on the list. Starting October 2016, I would call my SA to find out if there were any developments. I was told the first one (Aug 2016) went to the owners friend, second went to a individual that had cancer (Oct 2016). No problem, I could wait as I was now third on the list (do not count the owners' taken piece). After that, I would get the same message every month when checking in - stating that 'oh no we haven't seen one in a while; I will let you know etc.' this was becoming redundant and truthfully, not believable. This suggests that in 2017/2018 they received no Daytona's - highly doubtful! Fast forward to April 2019, I was getting frustrated as the AD was clearly playing games (as I know from sources, that they did receive multiple White dials in the two years previously). I called my SA and was a bit firm, stating that it does not look like you want to sell me the watch that I have been waiting over three years for and I wanted my deposit back. She mentioned that she would get back to me and she did, the next day, stating that they just received a White dial and it has my name on it (JOY!!! ) but I had to bundle the watch with another watch. Long story short, I pushed back and stated that 'No, I would not bundle as this is not a Rolex practice and I don't think that Rolex would want to hear that this is how a newly renovated AD is treating its' clients.' A few hours later; told me to book my flight and as they say the rest is history. (She did apologize profusely for asking me to bundle the piece upon receipt - I said don't worry, I know the horror stories ADs try to do) Although, it was a long, tedious and bumpy 1122 days for me to obtain my White dial Daytona - I am elated to say, it's mine! (with all the bells and whistles and at MSRP) It was definitely worth the wait!! Apologies for the long write up (ADs do play games but sometimes pushing back works - for me, it did):

Congratulations!!! I’m glad they finally got around to getting you one, although I’m sure you were feeling plenty frustrated. It’s a wonderful piece and looks at home on your wrist. Enjoy it!!!

Congratulations You definitely handled that well, and have a lot of patience.
I think I might know the AD you’re referring to if they are in Ontario |

Congrats on finally getting the watch! Curious, would you do business again with that AD and/or recommend them to others, after that 3-year odyssey?

I think thats the first SS Daytona i’ve seen that went out the AD’s door with stickers, you are a lucky man. Good job being patient, wear it proudly. Cheers.

Awesome! Congratulations
On being firm - I think in some situations that might actually turn the SA off or upset them. Good on you for calling them out. Glad it worked out for you Enjoy the watch! You're part of the Daytona club which many of us cannot say we are |

A huge congrats! What a beauty! Thanks for sharing your story. I'm glad it worked out and ended very well. Good job on keeping your stand and not giving in to their bundle request. You already had paid imo by them making you wait 1122 days, so a single purchased was well deserved.
Enjoy! |
