Hopefully you don't find this to be an odd question, but this is my second post and though will continue to read and learn from this site, I thought I'd ask for you opinion on the above watches.

I am new to Rolex, never had one, but have an interest in all of the above, pre-owned. I will need to be patient to find a clean watch at a good price, but that's ok. I think i wouild be ok with any of the above watches but wonder what recommendations you might make. I realize this is a personal preference but you might have suggestions or comments that will sway me one way or the other.

The SS sub is a std that I'm sure I can't go wrong with. The TT blue face sub has always been a favorite, though I wonder if it might be a little flashy for my conservative nature. Similar in some ways and priced lower than the TT is the SS GMT. It has the striking looks with the blue/red that catches my eye, but don't know much about that model. Last, a seadweller, which looks to be the same as the SS sub to me. Not sure of the difference. I mention this one b/c a used one showed up for $3400, 3 yrs old, box and all papers/orig receipt, so that seems like a good buy.

Anway, I have work to do to narrow it down, but in a way, i'm only considering 3 different looks. Any suggestion/recommendations for a newbie?

Any would would make a fine watch. Since you mentioned that the blue TT Submariner may be a little flashy for you, I would steer away from that. The SeaDweller is very similar to the Submariner, save for a few details in size/weight He Valve and without "cyclops." Finally, the GMT is a time-honored model, originally designed for jet-airline pilots, but appreciated by travelers everywhere. So, are you a recreational diver, or a frequent business traveler who crosses time zone? Does the red/blue bezel appeal to you? There are also red/black and all-black bezel options for the GMT as well. ANY would be a great choice, but I already said that!

The only part i don't like about the SS sub is they are so popular and common, it seems everyone has one (i'm exaggerating, but they are extremely popular). For that reason, I sorta want somethign different but maybe i shouldn't care.

The ss price point is attractive to me, which is prob in part why they are popular, they fit more budgets than the others.

David - I've owned a couple of SS Subs and they are classics, but I now wear the SD which is less likely to be spotted in the wild (e.g. bars, clubs, office, etc.) making it more unique. Couple that with the fact that it's been replaced by the SDDS and you've got a winner!!!

Really, any of the above watches is great - just comes down to personal choice!! Good luck with your search and post pics when you choose!

look at them all and go with the one thats makes you smile the most

dont buy on price otherwise you will always regret not having the money for the next model up!
dont look at the price and then choose
if you dont have the cash right now then save more
the sting of the price will be long forgoten when you look at the watch in years to come and still smile

Never did I want a SS Sub, myself. Although, after my first two I made the plunge to the larger sports model. Its been on my wrist for about a week- great other then I THINK I would prefer the glidlock and w. solid bracelet.
Back to my point, I very much disliked the thought of owning one because everyone that I knew with a Rolex had one (usually along with another watch or a few)

Go for a SS Sub LV if you think the black one is more common. Myself,I think the SS Sub/Sub LV is such a comfortable,versatile watch I really don't care if it's so popular. If it's a second hand choice get a SS Sub to get confident with the Rolex world. Wear it,use it and abuse it.

It may be yes popular, but the vast majority of owners wear it for the name,not for the whole WIS thing package. I'm proud to wear my Sub LV and I feel a bit disappointed when I talk to somebody who wear one just for the name but doesn't know much about history or techincal stuff.

p.s. I had a SD and sold it shortly after. Great watch but really felt a bit heavy for me.

Of course personal choice will decide which one you'll get but I like the GMT-IIc the best. I like its look and you can get it in SS or TT. I also like the Submariner and there are many good choices to make in this model. One choice you might want to look into is SS SUB NO DATE(14060M). It's a classic and looks great on the wrist and will give you years of enjoyment. What ever choice you make though be careful because once you own one you'll become addicted and will want more. Now if that happens you'll end up owning all the choices you were considering!!!

Well get the watch that's common and popular because when it's popular it means that a lot of people like the design and look of it and it will stay on you wrist longer time than those that are not, when you have a rolex watch that's not common or popular people might think that your wearing movado or seiko,,you'll see what I mean when you get one
