65 here myself..
I happen to also be 65 years old 5ft 10 inches and tip the scale at 152 with 32 inch waist and a BMI of 20.1.. This puts me in a 2% category of the white male population of 65 year olds.. I work at it every day and it is a way of life for me to eat extremely healthy with heavy amounts of tough cardio almost daily..

my BMI is 25.1 which is technically overweight, but I look pretty good, and I think I'd look worse if I lost 5 pounds
at a BMI of 20 I'd look like a teenager because I'm 5'8" |

Great accomplishment...truly. But instead of risking a heart attack or stroke, you risk death by vehicle accident It’s one risk or another any way you cut it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

There is no doubt cyclists risk a chance of a motor accident – but given the choice of over weight/obese or fit and healthy, I know which I choose (fail but strive for) Incidentally, I tried road biking for 12 months and clocked up many miles, but never got hooked on it as I found it tedious and boring, so I stick with (amongst other exercise) mountain biking. |

I have tried searching for head injury statistics and can’t find any info for the UK. The USA has a bit more info, but I can’t find statistics specifically for head injuries sustained by adults during cycling activities (ie not including the many incidents involving youngsters) It would also be interesting to see the percentage of the injuries that occurred without helmets. Many of the statistics I have just read include all age groups and even stress that “up to 85%” of head injuries would be negated by wearing helmets – which most keen cyclists do (road and mountain) Anyway - cycling certainly seems to work for the OP in his overall well being long may you enjoy it! (just make sure you keep your helmet on!) |

Yes - I meant to choose and I was a long distance runner and tried to be competitive after meeting/racing with Bill Rogers in the ‘70’s. I was super fit 5-10, 135 lbs on race days. My office mates thought I was at death’s door and my wife would that comment about the car risks on my long run days. I was truly complimenting OP on fitness. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Agreed. I got hit by a car, twelve broken bones in my back, fortunately the spine was fine. The bike, a beautiful DeRosa was totaled, of course.

There is fast growing body of evidence that small amount of extra weight is actually good for your health. Skinny is not best.
Like all simplistic formulae BMI is plain stupid. |

You need to get with the American lifestyle. Stop off and get some donuts and ice cream on the way back from your ride.

I'm pretty sure Australian statistics would be the same.
I have devoted a lot of my life to training and competitive sport. And my weight and physique never really fluctuated much. Now in my 50's, a slack month can see me rise a couple of kilograms. More concerning though is that what used to take me a fortnight to shed now takes me 2 months. |

BMI of 28 isn’t that bad. I thought it would be much higher as I see many people around me w much higher BMI’s.
