New Generation of 42mm ROO Chrono: "Love It" or "Meh"?
What do you think about this possible new generation of 42mm ROO Chrono? Let me please hear your opinions about this new 2019 model.
https://www.watchcollectinglifestyle...42-mm-offshore (I like the new button design, dial design, and Titanium case. But I don't like that it lacks the display back.) |

I love the offshore line a lot and think this model is nice however, would never choose it over the previous 42 I think it's much sharper

I like it, I like the 44 inspired pushers and I much prefer the stick markers on the dial - I never particularly liked the numbers. The case back is a nice addition to the 44 and given the premium in price it’s probably a good thing that the smaller watch doesn’t have it.

I much prefer it, but not over and above the 44. The main improvement for me is getting rid of the mundane stick pushers, but the new ones aren't as elegant as those used on the 44 range. Ok, but could be better...

Looks good but if I am spending the money I am spending a bit more and going for the 44mm which looks far better.

Natural evolution with the pushers so that is good. Dial switch to the ROC's standard layout is OK but it loses the ROO's signature look, and the subdial at 6 looks a bit weird and overfussy, prefer the older simpler style.

I like its all-Titanium case. It'll be lighter than Steel and even Ceramic.
I also like its subtle Petrol Blue color-scheme. But AP could've implemented a display back on it, even if the movement was too small. |

Tried it on the other day. Didn’t do a thing for me. 44 is unbeatable if one has the wrist.

the details are, for me, unnecessarily over-designed.
the markers, the hands, the cross hashes on the constant second subdial, the extra engraved line around the crown and pushers. sometimes, less is more...and that was always the beauty of the original RO design...and they were able to take that spirit when they created the offshore...and thus was able to retain its heritage connection. now the 42 version is looking a bit lost in the family. and, honestly, when i first saw online photos of this piece several weeks ago, i thought it was someone pranking a knockoff...cuz it reminded me of one of those chunky casios that have a gazillion functions on them, with both analog hands and digital time functions. disappointed to see that wasn't the case. |

I prefer the previous version. To my eyes, having the date at 3 o’clock looks more balanced

I originally thought I was going to like this piece a lot. When I had the chance to try it in person I knew I was going to go for a 44 (a CE in particular). The feel on the wrist is great (thin + titanium) but I didn't like the look of the hands or the small size of the dial. To my eyes the dial looked smaller than the one on the new 38mm ROC. Compare how close the date is to the edge on each ...
Overall, if you have the wrist for a 44, go for the 44. If not, this is a nice option but with a couple compromises. A few pics ...

I've got the 26480ti on order from a boutique, but I may get my deposit back as I'm less sure about it than I was. |

hmmm....
I really like this watch. if it was between the current 42 ROO's and this, I'd take this. I like the current models, love the display back but even though the 2385 isn't truly in house, it's a fantastic movement. I am a bit of a movement snob yes. I also love titanium watches and having been into Panerai's big time for 2 decades, I like big watches (to a point). But at 46 or maybe it's just been so long, I like the ROC and RO a lot. On my wrist, my wife think's they're too small and I kinda agree, lol. But my 15710 diver is the perfect size and fits perfectly. I think this watch is great, but.... With the 4402 movement around the corner for other AP offerings, I don't want it or the current crop of 42 ROO's. I want the a new titanium 42 and 44 to choose from with black or dark grey CE bezels to boot! I do agree after seeing these photos that the 44's dial is less busy or just better distributed. It looks cleaner or better thought out due to more room anyway any maybe the 42 ROOC's should for go the tachy bezel just to look better. Who really times speed with a watch anyway? I hope AP is listening to my requests.... Please....

I think the flatter case is the key improvement.

No display back was a big drawback for me with this piece. I decided to go with the 44mm CE instead for the sleeker finish.

I like the dial and thinner case, but at having to sacrifice an in-house movement with no display back isnt worth it
I imagine a LE of this piece with a cermet bezel, ceramic case/pushers/crown and display caseback |

I like the new aesthetics. With FP chrono, they should of made it 40mm, and 10mm thick. Let the new in-house be 42mm.
Resembles a lot like Diver Chrono. AP as usual, every model they deliver and something is always lacking. In this case, merely slimming the profile 2mm with to be next in house ROO dial layout. What can go wrong with that. Its not rolex el primero, or tudor black bay where collector collect, you know? We should all be asking what we wish for soon to come in-house ROO. Heck they might make them closed case back! Last edited by Gaphle; 17 May 2019 at 07:36 PM.. Reason: Misspelling, adding |

Prefer Gen 1.
The bezel looks to thick, and the dials, markers and hands are too busy, overworked. Not sure what’s going on in AP, other than the 15202 I’m not a fan of anything. Thanks God they haven’t touched that one (yet).
