REDUCED: Vintage Certina DS-2 Super PH 1000M Dive Watch
Up for sale is this rare vintage Certina DS-2 Super PH 1000M dive watch with gorgeous black applied index dial. This cult classic vintage diver from the innovative late-1960s/early-‘70s era is in overall Excellent condition. This early version features the coveted matte black applied index dial with orange accents in Mint condition. The dial’s original Tritium luminous has acquired a lovely patina, as has its original highly legible Tritium handset. This iconic all-steel design classic comes on a beautiful rustic Italian green leather strap that really makes the watch pop on the wrist. I’ve had the excellent in-house Certina caliber 25-651 serviced since owning the watch and it is in fine working order. I will therefore also guaranteed the movement for 6 months of normal non-abusive use. No safe queen, this stunning Certina DS-2 Super 1000 has instead clearly led an adventurous life and is ready for its next chapter as a robust tool watch companion for an equally adventurous new owner. The asking price for this awesome and uncommon Certina DS-2 Super PH 1000M diver is now REDUCED to $3150 USD OBRO including fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Bank Wire preferred. Paypal is also OK with split fees (+2% to the buyer — sorry, no FF). Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. CASE & BACK: Large and heavy 45mm wide (not including crown) by 48mm long by a whopping 18mm thick C-shaped stainless steel case with volcano-style bezel. This man-sized case has clearly seen some action and been used as a tool watch should be in its life. It therefore has some decent dings along the sides and some marks to the tops of the wing-like lugs — Very Good vintage condition. The top of the case appears to have its original satin finish, though it's possible that the sides were buffed a bit in the past. Screw in water-resistant notched caseback appears to have been re-satined at some point and has a few minor scratches and tool marks — Very Good+ condition. It screws down quite tightly and all correct internal Certina nomenclature of the period is present, including a full 7-digit serial number (partially blurred in picture) and our old friend Huguenin Freres’s casemaker signature. The inner back and case lip show negligible corrosion. DIAL & HANDS: Mint condition original matte black dial with applied luminous-filled bar & square markers, orange accent markers and framed date window. This beautiful dial shows no flaws that I can see and has all its original luminous material, which is still briefly reactive when exposed to UV light and has acquired a handsome patina. Original hands show a bit more age with some fading to the oversized orange minute hand and darkening of its lume, so they are more like Excellent. However the lume matches the dial’s in terms of light reaction and the overall effect is very pleasing to the patina lover. CROWN: Original signed semi-recessed crown, often replaced on these with generics, has a few marks matching the wear on the case. It screws down tightly and pulls out to the winding and non-hacking time-set positions as it should. CRYSTAL: Flat high-pressure mineral crystal has one area of abrasion by "6" where it must have come up against something rough but is without any other defect — Excellent condition and again ads to the overall aura of ruggedness. BEZEL: Original volcano-shaped ratcheting bi-directional rotating elapsed time bezel is tight and clean with sharp, well defined thick knurling — Excellent+. The original black acrylic inlay shows some wear and has marks from use — Very Good+ to Excellent original condition with its sunken luminous "12" triangle matching the dial’s patina and still glowing. This bezel features a very clever spring-loaded self-locking design where you press down to rotate it in either direction and when you stop applying pressure it pops back up and locks itself into place. MOVEMENT: 27-jewel in-house Certina automatic caliber 25-651 with date complication is running strong and working as it should. It has a semi-quckset date meaning it can be corrected rapidly by repeatedly moving the hands back and forth between approximately 9:30 PM and Midnight. I’ve had this high quality movement serviced since owning it and it has worked beautifully since. I will therefore guarantee the movement for 6-months of normal, non-abusive use. STRAP: This great Certina DS-2 Super comes on an awesome swamp green Italian distressed leather strap that compliments the orange accents beautifully and is in lightly worn condition. Despite its large diameter this great Certina takes 20mm straps. As a matter of policy, I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form. Have it tested if you want to use it as a diver or for any other aquatic activities and then go nuts. This great vintage Certina diver is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL. Thanks for looking, T. [email protected] |
