Vintage Rolex GMT Master Pepsi Ref. 1675 Mk5
Like so many of Rolex's iconic models, the GMT Master was born out of necessity. In the early 1950s, Rolex collaborated with Pan-Am to develop a watch for commercial air pilots. With advancements in technology and longer flight times, pilots needed to be able to track changes in time zones along their routes. While modern pilots have other instrumentation to track time changes, the GMT Master has cemented itself as an immensely popular classic and is one of the most iconic watches of all time.
The reference 1675 we have here is a great example of the early classic reference 1675 GMT Master. Manufactured circa 1977, the watch retains its original tritium Mark 5 dial and hand set in beautiful condition with a great even patina. The bezel is the classic "Pepsi" GMT red and blue with a nice light even fading, and the bracelet is the original 78360 Oyster. Take a look at the photos and the condition rundown below. Case: 40mm stainless steel case in excellent vintage condition. The case has thick lugs as shown and shows some surface wear commensurate with use. Crown screws down securely. Both serial and reference number stampings are crisp and fully legible. Bezel: Bidirectional Pepsi bezel in very good condition as pictured. The insert is a blue-back old service piece with a light fading on the red portion. Dial/Hands: Original matte Mark 5 dial in wonderful condition with no spotting or damage. The original tritium lume has faded to an even creamy patina that looks wonderful in the flesh. The hands are also original and have a matching patina. Date disc is original silver with open 6's and 9's. Caseback: Original steel caseback in excellent condition as shown. Inner caseback is stamped 1675 and has some previous service markings as pictured. Crystal: Newly fitted acrylic crystal free from any significant signs of wear. Movement: Caliber 3175 Rolex Automatic GMT movement keeping excellent time. All functions work as they should. Service history is unknown. Bracelet/Strap: Original 78360 Oyster bracelet with VC clasp code and 580 end links. Bracelet has 12 links and fits up to a 7.75" wrist comfortably. Bracelet shows only minor stretch and shows some surface wear on the links, and there are two very small dings in the clasp. Accessories: None, sold as watch only. Price is $13800 shipped insured FedEx overnight CONUS via PayPal or wire (3% discount for wire). US sale preferred, international sales will pay the cost of shipping. Face to face in the Boston area also welcome. I have many references available. Please feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for looking! |
