Relationship with wear and tear on Rolex?

Do you guys manage to keep your watches in pristine condition? Do you consciously consider your watch throughout the day? Or do you roll with the punches?

My GMT already has quite the collection hairline scratches all over the watch (including brushed components) after about 2.5 months. I bought the watch to wear it but I do feel somewhat guilty...

How do you guys approach the daily use of your watches? Pictures of wear and tear welcome!

Wear long sleeves all the time? Realistically though, it’s inconvenient to worry about a daily watch all the time. The only true way to keep it pristine is to leave it in its box and keep it there. Also, if you have it serviced regularly it gets to be pristine again every 6 years or so only to accumulate more scratches again.

You're safe with long sleeves. I believe he means that if scratches are a concern to someone they could wear a long sleeve shirt.

I understand your confusion. It's becoming common to see people putting question marks at the end of incomplete sentences. It can be difficult to tell if they're asking or suggesting something. I blame places like reddit for the popularity of this. They started the TLDR (too long didn't read) trend and now I think its graduated to TLWT (too long won't type)...lol!

I'm far from the grammar police but this is one thing that I notice a lot of lately.

I know how you feel. I tried to be super careful with my Daytona.
Every time I look at it, I see more scratches.

I stop worrying about it now, it's my son's problem down the road.
I just wear it and enjoy. You should do the same.

I wear my sub for everything and don't worry about it.

I try to be more careful with my DJ41, but it still gets marks. When it comes to service time RSC can always put on a new part or polish it back to new, so no worries.

I try to be as careful as I can, but I’ve come to realise that scratches are part of the experience!

After a few years I just started to appreciate those fine scratches. I think a deep scratch would bother me but i don’t have any of those. I don’t do anything to avoid scratches but I don’t really do anything where my watch would be particularly exposed to scratches.

I don't worry about it
I have other things to be more concerned about than scratches on a watch

I dont really think about protecting my watch throughout the day
But i do take it off at the desk, always have and find it comfortable, avoiding desk swirls is a bonus

I don’t think about my watch, however, I am conscious when putting my hand in the mailbox or steel drawers etc. Its a subconscious thing.

I wear my SD43 with pride and try not to stress about it earning signs of wear. I recently found a small scratch on the bezel and it bummed me out for about 3 seconds.
If I had multiple watches, I would probably be more careful with certain pieces.

I'm firmly in the wear not fuss camp. When I finally had my 116710 serviced for the first time the bracelet looked almost brushed from patina. Happily painting patina on it again on my way to a second service years down the road. Wabi Sabi. That's the way to view all of our things in my opinion. Works for me.

I get very bothered when my watch is scratched. So much so, I leave most in the safe.

I wear my watches so they're not too loose and I give them a good wash every now and then. Other than this, I just wear them. Someday they'll need service, and Rolex will make them look like new.

Rinse and repeat.

Well said. I bought a watch to enjoy it & for it to tell me the time. Scratches are unavoidable & you'll drive yourself insane trying to keep it pristine. Just like the first scratch on a motorcycle (if you're a rider), they all tell a story. (The first scratch on my XL1200CX was when I was pulled over, looking at directions on my phone with my gloves off, sneezed, and my wedding band hit the tank. A little "love tap" that I now enjoy looking at.)

Everyone worries about wear and tear at first (even if they say they don’t). Stay with it, after a while, it becomes your watch and you don’t even think about it.

This. I hated the first scratch on my Sub. I was annoyed at the second. I paid no attention to the third +. Part of a daily wear watch.

Guy at my office got a DJ for college graduation (30+ years ago). He put it in the safe deposit box and never wore it. He's a fool.
