Milgauss 6541

Hi all, I am new to the forum and vintage watches so please be gentle. I was hoping for some advice from the senior members. I am considering buying an old Milgauss that has 6541 stamped between the lugs and on the back case as well. It all looks OK and vintage but for the fact that it has an old Tudor movement in it. I just love the look of the watch with its lightning bolt second hans and great patina but am worried that should I get bored and want to sell it on, i will be stuck. The chap wants £1800 for it...no bracelet, no warranties implied or given. Many thanks.

I'd buy it, although I'd be careful since there are very few of those reference around. I believe only a couple hundred in circulation.

Do you have a pic? I would love to see that thing. The caseback has a second element to it. Are both pieces present?

Or not. Maybe I’m incorrect about the caseback. Let’s see what my esteemed colleagues say

If the Dial and Lighting seconds hand are original they are worth 10x the asking price alone.

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies....yes hooked7...it is the one on eBay...to me it looks nice, but as I say...I am new and don't want to buy something that I can't later on sell if I need the money. To my untrained eye, the bezel looks off and the "brevet" and "6541" stamp look really new? Also not sure if the case is actually that of a Rolex Milgauss

If someone is offering you a £100,000+ watch for £1800 that should probably tell you all you need to know.

Just looked at the watch, I don't think one piece of it is authentic.

Watch looks fake but seller has good feedback and other authentic watches for sale so perhaps they were also fooled?

It just looks like one of those 'project watch - PLEASE READ' auctions you see from time to time. He just left that out of his listing. Just the ugly seconds hand alone is enough to make you run away.

I know very little about vintage authentication, but after clicking that link, I can say that I wouldn't spend 50 deutchmarks on that unless you're looking for a small, inefficient paperweight.

Thank you all guys. It is a learning curve. Weirdly the posting has now been removed and the auction still had 4 days to go!

Looks like it sold now.

Can anyone actually explain why the watch is fake rather than just stating that it is? Would help to educate me.
I’ve compared it to other 6541s and it matches up pretty good but I’m a novice at vintage watches.

The only thing that doesn’t look right to me is the movement being Tudor.

The Brevet case looks to be authentic as well.

The listing has been taken off but the seller has just offered it to me at £2000, he says that he took it off because someone offered him £2200 but now won't complete the purchase. The pics are still available on the link hookedseven posted - if you click "see original listing" Would appreciate feedback as I think if the case and face are Rolex....may still be worth getting?

I too don't know much about vintage but after looking at pics of other 6541's.....it does look like most of it is there apart from the correct movement and bezel too I think. Hopefully the more experienced members can chime in.

LOL, would contemplate paying $50 for it as a paperweight.

Again, comments saying ‘don’t buy it’ but no actual reasons why.
OP just buy it and take it directly to an RSC and get them to evaluate it for you.

I can't believe anyone would think that any part of this POS is legit. Recessed crown, no-lume hands, 3D-effects bezel, dial completely wrong (just compare the details with a good example). This may sound harsh, but if this doesn't immediately jump out at you as a fake, you need to spend a lot more time looking at photos and reading the forum before considering a purchase.
