Question for Rolex owners

I own several Rolex models and is still my favorite brand. However I am considering an Omega aqua terra. My question is for rolex owners who also own omega. Please tell me you experienced good and bad
Thanks

I have the one omega below. While not an aqua terra, its a good quality attractive piece.

What experience? They are both great brands with great models and collected by their enthusiasts.

Personally, I don't collect Omega any more, although I still have a few of the classic Speedies and Seamasters. Now days they are a release-a-week brand, so it's hard to keep up.

Great. I value brand diversity and do not think Rolex has the market cornered on great watches. My collection has been as high as 8, never owning more than 2 rolexes at a time. In fact, my Omega Speedmaster has been getting the majority of the wrist time over my sub and daytona.

Both are great brands with a rich history! Iv never been disappointed by either brand, and with the current Rolex situation you can’t beat the value to quality of Omega, just my opinion of course.

Omega produce some excellent watches. For me the Seamaster 300 and the Speedmaster are all time classics and rival anything that Rolex produce.

I own a Speedmaster and a De-Ville, and I also owned a Planet Ocean for a few years. The quality of the watches overall is equivalent to Rolex, or close enough as makes no difference - aside from the bracelets though I think the most modern Omegas might have improved in that respect. I certainly have never encountered any QC issues, albeit the sample size is minuscule. My experience of Omega AD’s and the service centre is that they’re excellent.

Omega trails Rolex on brand perception and value retention far more than on the actual watches themselves.

I have one Rolex (126711CHNR) and one Omega (Classic Speedy). The Rolex does have a more premium feel, as should be expected at the given price points of both, but the Omega doesn't lack in any way. The build quality is great, the dial has excellent detail, and it's been extremely reliable overall.

I don't think it would be fair to compare movements between my two watches, but I'm sure a chronometer rated Aqua Terra w/ co-coaxial escapement and any given Rolex w/ 31XX series movement (for example) would be a much fairer comparison.

I have several Rolex watches and haven't pulled the trigger on an omega.......yet

However the idea of ceramic cases (grey and black side of the moon) is REALLY appealing to me as a daily beater! Plus I love the heart of that watch!

I love my Aqua Terra. It's a beautiful watch and wears just as nice/runs great like my other Rolex watches. Just something different.

Omega and Breitling do nothing for me. I have tried so hard to get into them. I don't find them attractive at all. From a wearability stand point the times I have worn them they seemed comfortable.

I have five Omegas and enjoy them all. I would love to own an Aqua Terra, such a stunning watch overall.

The AT is more dressy then sporty. It’s the boat/yacht watch of Omega. I think it’s unique and very classy. I would recommend looking into the 38mm, it’s harder to find but worth the comparison. The AT would be a great all around watch AND could be a vacation/travel watch because the strap is rubber (if don’t get the bracelet)

Exactly my thoughts. As a traditional 36 date just and dd owner the 38 on a rubber strap is what I am leaning towards

I have 1 Rolex (Sub 14060m, newly acquired), and a Speedy Pro (Hesalite sandwich). Quality seems comparable in terms of case finishing and crown action, though the SEL Speedy bracelet is much more substantial than the older HEL Sub bracelet.

The Speedy definitely flies under the radar more than the Sub.

I enjoy them both.

This thread needs pics!

The coaxial movement is brilliant and Omega has much less traditional styling then Rolex, you can also buy one without having to go on a 40 year waiting list.

I have a Bond GMT and it's a great world travel watch.

I love the horizontal teaque pattern of the AT to remind us of the woodwork in yachts. I could definitely add one to the collection, almost pulled the trigger on a blue dial but went for a Speedy instead.

I currently own in chronological order a Planet Ocean 2500, a Breitling Seawolf, a Yacht-Master plat dial 116622, a SD43 and a Speedy Racing MC, not counting other less significant pieces. I'm actually wearing Omega more often than Rolex. I feel more attached to the brand, more connected, especially in the last year and a half where I've taken some distance from Rolex.

Omega quality has exceeded my expectations. For example my PO2500 bought new in 2005 has never failed me and is super accurate. I still thoroughly enjoy wearing it. My Speedy Racing is by far the most beautiful chrono I've ever had. I particularly like the white eggshell dial, the shape of the gold applied markers, the white enamel tachymeter numerals inside the black ceramic bezel, the display caseback and decorated movement, the size, all the straps from factory.

To me, Omega offers much more than Rolex for what I personally value and they make things easy, they're eager to please customers. They know how to give the public what the public wants. I still like Rolex don't get me wrong, but it's really come down a few notches lately. Rolex has become a little bit overhyped especially in the secondary market.

I have a few (8) Omegas in both mechanical and quartz.

I have had no bad experiences with any if them.

I have 5 or 6 Omega watches and few Rolex in my collection. Love wearing them in rotation. They have been as reliable as any of my Rolex watches.

Funnily enough, I'm also looking at getting a new omega. Can't quite make up my mind between the AT or the latest Seamaster 300. That ridiculous escape valve is putting me off the latter. I'm impressed with the latest master chronometer calibres that have amazing accuracy. I started collecting Omega years before Rolex. Love the brand. You will love the AT if you are ready to pull the trigger.

I have a Speedy in the collection and it is a wonderful watch and I love it. It's all marketing. Omega is just as good as Rolex these days and arguably, maybe better.

Daytona vs Speedy
Sub v Seamaster
Explorer vs Aqua Terra
Date just vs Constellation
Day-Date vs ..constellation
TT Bluesy vs ...tt seamaster?
PM YG Sub vs ...yg seamaster?
GMT vs ....... seamaster gmt??
Sure the movements are nice with the recent innovation. The average Joe couldn't care less.. Especially when they find out the coax sacrifices some sweep smoothness. Limited edition this and that and not enough strength in the lineup. I do love some Omegas but I don't understand the 'as good as Rolex, maybe better' argument. It just isn't true.

I have a Seamaster 300 with the matt blue dial. I love it and it gets worn a lot.

That is very particular and according to the prejudices and influence of the "society" that can influence each one. Objectively an Omega Aqua Terra is a watch that is not inferior to Rolex Explorer or Oyster Perpetual, both in movements and in perceived quality. And in some cases even better.

I have an Omega Seamaster 300m Diver and I'm delighted.

I am wearing this one today and it is one of my favorites. The strap is mucho comfortable on the wrist, the watch is solid, and most important, it looks good.

I wouldn't compare it to Rolex. It's neither better nor worse, just completely different. I do love the Omega Co-Axial movements. Very accurate and extremely anti-magnetic. The AT comes with the Co-Axial 8900 movement which sets like a Rolex GMT with the first crown position moving the hour hand to set the date.

I own a few Rolexes and 2 Omegas (Speedy and Aqua Terra). I love and wear both of them, although only occasionally. The AT is a great dress watch and the Speedy is a good all-around watch.

Sold my Omegas as most of the interesting ones are too large for me.
