Not true at all.

Before that video was ever released, I was quoted 6 months (which was probably on the very low end), and other posters here were being quoted 1-2 years.

The Mayer thing may have exacerbated the problem, but it did not cause it. It's been tough to get for a while.

Ain't that the truth. I guess this is what "viral marketing" is. I always thought it would be a real specialty watch that would only look good in a few situations and with certain outfits. But now that it's been touted by J.M., whose guitar playing is great with Dead & Company, and it's suddenly hard to get, everyone needs one. Oh, and it's going to a million dollars, because it's at least 1/17th as important as Paul Newman's Daytona!

I wonder if the pre-dink dated warranty cards will hurt the value any? I mean, you would have bought it when it was easy to get.

I had a chance at one at my AD with discount also about a month before the mayor video.. didn't want a non ceramic bezel so i didn't go with it

i actually thought it was one of the nicest looking daytonas last year. there are definitely people that have liked it before the hype, but it proves to me that a majority of people that want to buy SS daytonas, hulks, blros, etc are in it because of the hype

Never liked it before the video
Still didn't like after the video

i tried it on ... had opportunity to buy with discount.... but looked gaudy and too flashy in YG for me. Waste of money

For me i'd go with WG panda or RG panda

In fairness to the believers of the hype, the watch was already produced in small quantities to begin with. I had only ever seen one at an AD locally back in November 2017, and it sold pretty quickly. But demand was never high and could be considered "niche", so it made sense that there weren't many of them delivered.

I also understand that demand for the reference is particularly high from China and people of Chinese origin (I say this being of Chinese descent). Green and Yellow are particularly lucky colours. Demand did creep up along with the rising tide in all Rolex sports models.

But the jump after the Mayer video was clearly and obviously overdone. Suddenly everyone and their mother was asking for one, greys increased their prices overnight and just seem to be testing newer and newer highs in the hope someone will buy.

Before the Mayer video I was the only client at my AD who asked about one after they sold their one in August 2018. After the Mayer video they get multiple calls a day for it. Clearly it seems a lot of the demand today is based purely on hype.

Nothing to do with reality. That sort of mod was sought for from the moment it was released. I personally saw a group of Chinese or HK people buying two pieces at once at my AD back around end of 2017/beginning of 2018. Then my AD told me that from all PM Daytona this is the most sought for. And especially by far-easterners because of the colour combo. So it was sought for, nowadays looks like everyone is obsessed with it.

I have daily checked this section of the forum for a while...In the months before the Hodinkee video and the one member whose name I cannot recall chasing theirs, I can count on one hand how many threads were started specifically about the 116508 YG Daytona w/ Green. Probably 2-3 threads at best. Since then? There seems to have been 2-3 a DAY about getting one and all of a sudden dozens of closet admirers. I remember when Conor McGregor showed up wearing his on Instagram and nobody picked it up. Now? I've seen that couple year old picture on a couple of watch pages within the last few weeks.

The crowd surge with Rolex is mind blowing.

What did the AD say about the wait time? Did you talk to your AD and place deposit and what have you been told about this order by the AD? I would like to have one too, and my AD said at this time no deposits would be accepted due to unknown delivery date! So for me, I think I am out of luck this year.

I think it’s a beautiful watch....but given a choice, I like a Daytona with contrasting sub-dials, or at least contrasting rings on the sub-dials. I had the WG blue dial & grey racing dial, and moved both because of the non-contrasting dials. Same reason I have the brown ring sub-dial PT Daytona vs the diamond dial.
All personal preference, and I passed on the YG green dial several times, and would pass on it today if I was shopping for a YG Daytona. Like I said...beautiful watch, beautiful dial color... I’d just choose different.
But that watch is waaaay over-hyped at the moment.
