BLNR Oyster swap for DayDate WG, blue leather

Hi All

What are your thoughts on the DayDate WG 118139?

I have been offered a few £££ in addition to swapping my BLNR Oyster for this five year old model. Main reasons for this is because it is likely i will get more use out of the DayDate.

On the other hand, my concerns are that I have never bought a used watch and it appears it hasn't had a service. Dealer says it has had a 'light' polish - whatever that might entail

The warranty card originated in Paris. Typically would they come with a French Date dial, or has it been swapped out?

Just buy this separately. I’m sure you’ll get a steal of a deal, especially if the box and papers have taken a walk.

Its actually a better deal if i part ex the BLNR - they give me extra money, on top of the swap.

The watch has box and papers.


I'm guessing that if the novelty wears off in a year or two i shouldn't lose too much as it already is a used piece?

Day dates on strap are very undesirable. They can’t be worn on a metal band in the future. If you like the day date, by all means negotiate a fair cash price. Your BLNR has no doubt appreciated well and should be sold separately at a profit.

I found My DD on a strap VERY desirable.

I have both DD's on Strap and bracelet.

I buy them on Amazon and eBay. I have about 30 of them
Search for earbud case nylon and they will pop up.
There are loads of colours to choose from.
They come from China usually

I find they are perfect for storing my watches, protecting them and they are great for travelling

i wonder what that means ??

Are the edges still perfect ?

For me there is too much against it.

I don't like the little feedback he has. one of them was a First and only post .. Im suspicious of that.

It's too hard to send the watch back

Why not buy locally in the UK ?

It is locally in the UK. I saw the piece yesterday. It is basically £10.5k to me if I do the swap. A full president of the same age will be much more in cost.

The general consensus here is that it's probably not a good idea. Agreed that if it were a few K Cheaper it would make the decision easier.

How old is your BLNR ?
How much in £££ will you get back in addition to the DD ?
is the seller 100% legitimate ?
is the DD perfect ? What damage has the "Light Polishing" done if any ?
What condition is the strap in ? New ones are expensive if you get a genuine Rolex one which is the only one I would want on that watch..

Personally I am not a fan of the BLNR and I am a BIG fan of the DD - thats why I have 3 of them.

The watch in the picture is NOT the watch you would get as i think thats a stock Rolex picture .. Is there a picture of the actual watch etc.
Is it a UK (160 code) watch ? has it ever had a service ?
Lastly is the seller a well known seller with plenty of good reviews ?

You need to answer all of the above to make a more considered decision.
Following the You tube video it looked like the actual watch was in Switzerland but as you have seen it in the UK that makes things better.

I love the DD on strap. Especially the blue on white gold. That being said, I would not make that trade. But separate at a good price.

I thought about getting the DD many times but couldn’t get past the integrated endlinks. If you’re ok with that I would do the trade.

I’m not paying over $12k usd - fluted bezel must present perfectly and strap should be free of dirt. If the strap is the wrong size a new one is definitely $500.

No way would I ever do that one. I know I'm biased but still, used (hard enough for 5 years to need a polish), on a strap. No way, even if the value on paper is fair.

Don't do it. That BLNR is a classic. DD36 is just being replaced with new D36s...

I would not swap, but would consider an outright buy for the strap Day-date especially in white gold. That would look great on a nice Hermes leather strap. But bnib or lnib (no polish) for me.

I have a 25 year old YG president which I received as a gift in the 90s and it is so fresh today despite years of use that I realize I am very good at preserving these timepieces. Thus, a fresh example is a must.

You are TOTALLY WRONG.

I have 2 DD's on bracelets (PT 36mm & WG 40mm).
I also have a RG 36mm on leather strap,

Different watches for different occasions.
For example .. Today I am going over to friends for a 70th birthday casual drop in tea (Coffee in my case).
I will be wearing my RG DD 36mm on leather. Casual and elegant.

If the price for the DD is £11950 you should be easily able to get that for £10,500
Your BLNR you should be easily able to get £10,500.
Thats a break even figure assuming both watches are in great condition.
The question that is all important then is the amount of £ you will get with this deal.

The BLNR at the moment is rising in value. how long that lasts for is anyone's guess but i think one day the bubble will just have to burst.
the DD is constant.

The two watches are very different So back to square one What watch suits your lifestyle and just style better. What watch do you really want.

Not been serviced in its 5 year life.
As in the OP it was originally bought in Paris, hence the date language quer
Hard to tell how much the polish has affected it because the case and lugs are rounded.
Genuine strap fits me and is in good condition.
£10.5 is complete price
BLNR is a 2018 in almost new condition

I don't like the deal.

I think you are loosing out too much.

The BLNR is VERY VERY saleable.
The DD is MUCH MUCH harder to sell.

The dealer knows this and isn't making enough to pull you into the deal.

i would want at least £2500 to do that deal. Thats a minimum to do a swap.

I doubt the seller will go for that. Then again i don't want to be stung when I want to swap it out so i guess that is a good price as a sweetener to do the swap.
