Submariner 1968 domed crystals
A quick question in regards to obtaining a period correct domed crystal for a 1968 5513 Submariner, If Ive read correct mine is a Low domed acrylic plexi-crystal, opposed to sapphire, are these still available ?
I'm hoping to obtain a correct one as a spare. Many thanks "H"

Difficult to be sure they are authentic when buying NOS plexis.
FWIW if it were my watch I’d want a new plexi fitted since they don’t age well if they’ve been stored in subprime conditions. They become brittle over the decades. It’s a disposable part that is integral to the waterproofing of the case. But that’s just my opinion. |

A regular pressure test is always a good idea. My last Gulf spear fishing trip
near Panama City involved the last dive for my 1969 red Submariner 1680. Depth was 30-35 feet and it came through unscathed. With aging O-rings possible, Submariners should be regularly tested if spending time underwater. It has deserved retirement for 50 years of excellent original service. ______________________________ "Only the dead have seen the end of war". Plato |
