Hair between case back and case??
Ever since I've had my Expy II back from the RSC, about three weeks, I noticed the hair on my wrist would occassionally get caught by what I first thought was the bracelet. I didn't think much of it at first.
Today it happened again and when I took my watch off and had a look at the back of it I found a surprise. There was a tiny wrist hair caught between the case back and the case itself. Has anybody experienced this? |

Ok guys, let me refrase the question in order to highlight the area of concern:
Can the caught hair between the case back and case itself potentially indicate a gap left after regulation (by not fully tightening the case back) that could allow the water to get inside the watch? |

Did RSC not screw the caseback properly to the oyster and now there's a space/recess which your arm-hair is falling into and as you pull the watch off or re-adjust the watch on your wrist, it's snagging your arm-hair thus catching into the caseback?
Sounds like the morons didn't screw it back on properly. If that's the case, I hope they didn't damage the thread because if they did, you'd need a new oyster. |

Ok. On a serious note...
Can you see a space? I imagine you can not turn it with your hand? If you have a case back tool you could check it and tighten it if needed, but I imagine most people don't have that. You may want to take it back to RSC and ask them to double check the seal. In the meantime, I would keep it dry. |

It's possible that they didn't tighten the caseback all the way down. If this is the case there could be a gap that can snag a hair. Looking at my GMT, it's absolutely snug with the case and no room for anything, much less a hair.

I bought my GMT IIc new in September 07' and have had the same thing happen. I happened to have a clasp issue (bent-had to be replaced) shortly after i bought the watch and the it had to be sent back to the RSC for repair. I did not make mention of the hairs getting stuck to my AD when he was sending it back for the clasp repair, but i would assume Rolex would have given it the "once over" after they repaired the clasp before sending back. Wrist hair continued to get caught and still do to this date. Mine get stuck in the same place every time, about the 5 o'clock position on the caseback. I usually just take a pair of tweezers and pull the 3 or 4 hairs out (they are barely stuck) as tough to get at with my fingers. Thought was strange, but never thought was something i should look into-now thinking maybe i should.

Just looked at mine, the caseback is not flush with the case itself-it's sitting slightly higher. I can take my finger nail and run it on the case towards the caseback, and, i can feel the "lip" of the caseback when i reach it as if it is elevated above the case and not perfectly flush. Is this normal? Maybe i too have a caseback that is not screwed all the way down.

You don't have a problem........
A hair..specifically an RCH is a technical measuring tool used for precision work.. I would check to see if it is indeed Red, just to insure that the proper measurement has been taken..

I think I know what's up. It's not your hair but the service agent's hair stuck between the case and back. You see, to add value to the service you receive at RSC, they now include a DNA signature hair strand just to show you that RSC goes above and beyond. My local, very competitive, AD has been angry with the change and is now including a hair INSIDE the case with each cleaning - beat that RSC! Seriously, go to your local AD and if he's cool, he'll check it out and see if it can't be corrected w/o having to send it back to RSC.

I spoke to the RSC technician today. Although he claimed the watch should still be fine and certainly under their guarantee (after being regulated ), the safest option would be for me to bring/send the watch for them to check and tighten the case back if necessary.
So, looks like they may have failed to screw it back up properly. Off to RSC next week so I'll keep you posted. |
