Watchtime Rolex Article

Watchtime Article

Hi gang: I know many subscribe to Watchtime but to those who don't, I just want to urge them to buy the current issue for a great, though rather short, article describing the author's tour of the Rolex facilities.

(Also a review og the Tudor Black Bay GMT Ref:79830RB and discussion of the new in house MT5652 movement)

As I mentioned, at only 6 pages it's nowhere near the full story but it's fascinating and informative. I cannot reprint anything but I'll paraphrase a highlight which blew (what's left of) my mind.

There are 4 separate installations located across Switzerland. The enormous buildings feature exteriors which are really classy & beautifully designed. And, these are essentially factories! There are some photos included - yes, these buildings are nothing you'd expect a factory to look like.

Located at Plan-les-houses this facility produces cases and bracelets as well as housing the spare parts warehouse and foundry.

The fully automated spare parts area has 60,000 storage compartments connected to a 1.5 kilometer (almost a mile) railway network. Regardless of where an employee is in the building, when they order a part it is delivered to them on a tray within 8 minutes. If there's a power failure, the space is divided into two sections so work can continue.

Full Automation? A Railway network? Very impressive stuff for something as boring as a parts warehouse. When Rolex does something, man they do it right!

Anyway, a cool artcle.

Mark

My dear sir, I would think you'd hold me in a little higher regard as I have unparalleled respect for copyright law.
Yes, you do not know ne personally, but I post enough that I assumed my writing would reflect some intelligence.

I wasn't addressing you. Someone posted photos of the full article and it was removed from this thread.
