Cleaning my Rolex

I have a 2013 GMT 116710LN still has some of the original stickers on and I personally don’t want to remove them yet as it’s part of the history of the watch for me.

I’m starting to notice dirt building up on the watch (it’s my daily)

I have an ultrasonic cleaner but I don’t want to put the watch in the water and than have issues in the future.

What is the best way to clean it without damage and without removal of stickers so far (maybe one day)

First time I got it I took a tooth brush and some jewelry cleaner and gave it a gentle scrub than wiped with a polishing cloth

I maintain, it's a ridiculous question and the replies have been more jokes than harsh words. How, on God's green earth, can someone wear, let alone be proud and *seek* expert advice on the best way to CONTINUE to wear a beautiful Rolex with sickening stickers all over it consider that normal? For a relatively new member, posting an *extremely* unusual question and getting rattled by a few jokey replies is rather, well, silly. Leaving grungy, dirty - soon to be filthy - plastic stickers on it doesn't fit my idea of respect. Whatever....

I respect your opinion. As I do everyones. But I asked a question as I’m new to this. I was told by some older collectors that keeping stickers on keeps the value aswell as many other things. Main reason I ask these questions is to learn new things from experts such as yourself.

I definetely was not rattled but felt as if my question was valid. It just seems most people got offended by my question as if it’s their watch.

I literally laughed at most responses anyway as I always do because it’s funny. I’m sure many people have had the same question and were embarrassed to ask as they probably would’ve gotten punked like me, but hey at the end of the day I got the answer I was looking for.

Just take the stickers off and clean that BIT*H off.

If I bought a 6 year-old watch from someone else I would send it in for service. Too soon? Maybe. But do you truly know? From that point on it's your watch and you know how it's been treated.
I would not send the watch to RSC just for a cleaning.
Our watches seem to be going up in value, why not take the time and expense to make sure they are working correctly?
Like a nice sports car where you drive it like you stole it, wear the watch and enjoy it.

I know you have a connection with these “stickers”, but you do realize the dirt underneath them will cause significantly more damage vs being bare, right?

You can use an ultrasonic cleaner for the bracelet, but make sure to remove the watch head first.

Why don't you remove the stickers but place them on a small silver (stearling) platter and secure them in a safe deposit box or home safe? You could mark the event of date of purchase, date of sticker removal, date of cleaning crud, all by having the silver plate engraved.

Don't put your watch head in the ultrasonic cleaner. The vibrations are not good for the delicate machined pivots and jewels.

Do put your bracelet in the ultrasonic and it will get the grease and debris out from the nooks and crannies. Plain water is not the best fluid for a cleaner, you need to develop bubbles and dissolve greases.

The significance is that this is my first Rolex and a piece I’ve always wanted I LIKED the fact that the stickers were still on because the guy I got it from hardly wore the watch and it’s from the other side of the world.

not really people being upset its just more the fact that this post is so ironic. you're asking about using an ultrasonic cleaner on your watch while your stickers are accumulating bacteria and other crap lol. to each their own ofc...

But I'm very curious and I'm not trying to give you a hard time so don't take this the wrong way. Do you not find it gross? Or in your mind is it pretty much NOS?

This is the main reason I asked the question. I just got the watch it’s not like I’ve been wearing it for years daily and never cleaned it.

I bought it a few weeks ago and sprayed alcohol onto all the crevices and onto the brush and went over the watch multiple times even under the stickers. But in the few weeks I’ve worn it as a daily it’s gotten pretty dirty again.

Hence why I said one day I will remove the stickers because yeah it is gross. But I’m not a germaphobe either. I’ll eat food if it fell on my floor that I just washed why wouldn’t I wear a watch with protective stickers on especially if it was worn scarcely by previous owner.

Thanks to everyone who’s actually normal. I’m sure I’m not the only one in the world with this type of question so I don’t care about the hot shots who troll people and make their days better while making other people feel bad.

It took me years to buy my first Rolex and if I like having the stickers on as a part of the history FOR ME, not the watch. But again to each their own. Just asked for advice I received it, could’ve went a lot smoother but hey that’s everyones prerogative to make someone else’s day shitty.

Welcome! Just to give you some FYI. The protective stickers on a new Rolex are there primarily to keep the watch from scratches and scuffs when being tried on by people in the AD. They are not intended to stay on the watch after sale to the customer. Sure it is a ritual for many to bring their new watch home and peel them all off themselves. But leaving them on does more harm than good. They harbor dirt and bacteria and the finish of your new watch can actually get messed up worse than if you removed them all in the first place. This is why some are flaming you. It is your watch to do what you wish, but those stickers should be removed if you wish to wear and clean the watch regularly.

When you take the watch to Rolex, they might take the stickers off to clean it. So either make sure that you mention that you don't want them to, or take them off yourself.
