Use of silly Rolex nicknames by age group
I can’t imagine any man over the age of 40 is referencing these silly and awful nicknames for various Rolex watches e.g., Bluesy, Hulk, Batman, stop stop stop!
If you’re a constant user of these nicknames, please select your age range for a fun little poll. 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 |

51, I do not have any of the nicknames but I think that are more useful than references or long description.

Also, what people call their watches bothers me not in the slightest.

I'm 46 and use them. It's just so much easier to say Pepsi than 126710BLRO. Although I find myself using BLRO on TRF more and more. Overall I have no problem with the nicknames. I have no nicknames for my white Milgauss or black Explorer II.

Old enough to use them, young enough to know better.

30. I don’t use nicknames, but I don’t mind them. I used to name my cars but I think I got that from gone in 60 seconds

35. I mainly use nicknames. I have too much going on to remember all of them by reference numbers.

51 and use the nicknames on TRF to facilitate reading. With my AD I use the Rolex color acronyms BLRO, BLNR etc. To anyone outside of our collector and aficionado world, I wouldn’t think of perpetuating these childish names.

"We can't talk watches like we used to. But we have our ways. One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time I tried to catch a ferry in Seattle. I needed a new crown for m'Air King. So I decided to go to Portland, which is what they called South Seattle in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. 'Gimme five bees for a quarter,' you'd say. Now where were we... oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. I didn't have any white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones... then I'd miss the ferry because I never got that crown for m'Air King..."

I don’t use them but I can’t for the life of me work out why some people get so wound up about completely harmless words. I assume some of it is comic book snobbery, because comics are childish and purely for kids to people who don’t know better. The rest I can only put down to classic miserable old git syndrome.
This forum forms an echo chamber. In the real world, even AD’s look at you like you’re some special kind of moron if you use reference numbers to identify watches. Ultimately, words are simply a tool used to communicate ideas. In the context of watches, everybody who has a passing familiarity with Rolex watches knows that a Hulk is a green sub whereas only a minority understand what is meant by 116610LV.

lol this is so true. Not only will they think you're a moron, 90% of salespeople will have no idea what watch you're actually talking about anyway.

I try not to use them as I don’t like them but find I have to sometimes to help others know what I’m talking about.
I always associate batman with the colour black so not sure why/how the BLNR came to get that name. When I was a kid my Batman figures had black suits and the bat mobile was also black. The hulk name I get but I prefer to just call it an LV. |

Doesn’t really bother me. Times are such, the more you resist the more aggressive the pushback is Let them call however they wish to associate with it

47. Didn’t vote as I say Sub, GMT, Explorer, etc.
If I need to specify color I say the color or blro, etc. To each their own. |

If the term Bluesy was good enough for JJ, it’s good enough for me!

44 don't instigate use of the nicknames.
A lot of the younger sales guys at work converse in the nicknames, and it doesn't bother me to the point of correcting them or refusing to talk watches with them. I might even reply using a nickname Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk |
