Thanks for sharing, proof that the daytona was a dog those days. This is a newspaper ad from the seventies?

Once upon a time in...
Quote:
Could be as early as 1968-69 when 800 service in US was first being adopted after its intro in 1967. But before 1974 when Nixon signed the DST law. Note the use of CST. After 1974 most times were noted as “CT” or Central or Central Timezone to avoid resetting the ad copy in the Summer month’s. DWJC still wanted bezils, I see... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Yes agree back in the mid 1970s into the 1980s watches like the manual wind Daytona were very very very poor sellers. But that was before the internet generated hype today we have watches like the 16610LV with the so called flat four font internet hyped out of all proportion to what in the real world it is.Take the modern Daytona been hard to get at retail since introduction in 2000.Same for the ceramic which is in the real world the old 2000 Daytona with a ceramic bezel and a few other purely cosmetic changes.IMHO today many buy these types of watches because they are hyped by the net. And some think that by owning one of these hyped watches some how they have something that is rare and unique.Today Rolex to many are no longer watches bought to be worn and enjoyed now they are just seen by many as little more than ££££$$$$$$$.

Hard to believe ... maybe 40 years from now the slow sellers will be the hardest to get.

Presumably the most sought after is partly due to their rarity - hence all the slow sellers of today will be the rare finds of next year. There is a chance my SD4k 116600 will be one of those - hopefully my son won’t sell it for a deposit on a house!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Oh for a time machine. I’d also travel back to late 80’s England when Navy Surplus stores were offloading 5517 Milsubs for £250...

Nice! Thanks for sharing. That’s why the new AK could the latest sleeper IMO. Some may disagree and that’s ok. But please no hateful comments.

It was also a time when the motorsport function was actually relevant. Now their popularity is though the roof and nobody times laps with one.

The automatic version was hugely popular once introduced, which drove demand for the manual version. There have been multiple Air Kings already, none particularly sought after or valuable. No reason to think the new version will be any different. The vast vast majority of unpopular things never become valuable but don’t let me stop you from putting it all into AKs. |

Did you guys measure masculine virility by the second. Wouldn’t five minute increments be more appropriate? I won’t comment on the second paragraph as it’s too funny in this context. |

Thanks for sharing, that pops up every couple of years. Crazy how trends have changes over the years.
