Worth it? Submariner

Hello,

This is a question for a friend who is interested to buy this submariner for 6655$.
Asked him for more details but for now only got this pic.
Thoughts? is it in good shape? Polished? Etc

Thanks

Can't say much about the condition from this pic... You should post a new thread when you can provide pics that will allow members to help you...
Price-wise, if it is just the watch, and with unknown service history, US$6.0-7.0K would be the ballpark. Yours maybe a bit on the high side.

It looks like a 16610, but the bottom says swiss, so made after about the year 2000-will perhaps need a service, so account for about $1000 USD for that. Not enough pics to comment on the polish situation.

First impressions: looks like a service dial, no big deal. Crysta might be scratched above the cyclops? That might drive me insane.

It’s priced in the ballpark.

I think more 1998/9
By 2000 we see SWISS MADE - no?

Yes. Makes sense.
1998 was last year for Tritiium
SWISS was then used about 1 year 1999. The from around 2000 Swiss Made.

Looks like the average run of the mill pre ceramic sub at an average price. There are thousands and thousands of them out there. If he wants a 16610 he can find one at any price in any shape, box, papers, whatever. Just buy from a trusted source brother, thats more important.

We'd need more pics of the case and lugs to try to determine if its been polished. It hasn't been cleaned. The if the marks on the crystal can be wiped off that's great. If the dial is messed up I'd pass. The price is a little high for the questionable origins.

I can't comment on the case but the bracelet has been polished.... but it really should matter unless you wanted all the previous owners scratches. Need to see the lugs to know if the case has been overdone or not.

Average price appears to be ~$8,000.
Hard to tell the conditions, servicing is likely required
Still a good looking one though

I think most are going to be over $7k, but there are some still priced below that. Swiss only dial, needs to match with serial number., otherwise may already be service dial. Only thing I can add is waiting only makes the price go up.

Dori, price would be more than fair, if there is a history to go with the watch. One picture is not enough. I would not buy any watch with no historical explanation and only one picture. If this is a face to face, I would ask for authenticity verification at a jeweler that you would pay to have done. If the watch is authentic and jeweler says all is good, then price is fair.

Refinished, service dial; appears to be in good condition, probably 20+ years old.

A check of prices in the buyers would indicate if it is good for the market location or not.

Does it come with the full set? Can he haggle the price down to 6650$

Seriously, if you ask me that price is insane for and old SS watch that probably needs a service. He should be able to get a brand new sub for less than what this costs plus the service. Why would he buy that when he can have a brand new one? I don't get it.
