trade AP ROC RG with additional cash for Green dial Daytona

Hi All,

I'm asking for your opinion on trading my 2016 black dial AP ROC full rose gold with additional USD 10,000 for 2019 brand new Daytona yellow gold with green dial.

Do you think this is a good trade? Obviously the resale value of the ROC in RG is not very strong but adding USD 10,000 is quite hard to take tbh.

I rarely wear the watch so that is why I'm thinking of selling it. Interested in hearing your opinions on this. Thank you and happy Friday

THAT IS A BIG BIG NO NO NO

That Daytona is way way overhyped. Before John Mayer interview it was selling at below MSRP. How on earth is this piece selling for these prices is absolute lunacy in such a short timeframe. I even remember getting offered 25% discount on this piece several years ago. Couldnt even move them.

I would, the AP does not work for me and since you hardly wear it ...

The Daytona will always be a very wearable watch and in the configuration you want absolutely stunning

Thank you all for your kind responds. As much as I hate playing the resell game, I have to admit the green dial daytona is pretty amazing and there is no chance of getting it at retail (for now at least).

This daytona will also replace my AP as my grail. Do you think this is a grail worthy watch?

If it was a true grail you wouldn't/shouldn't be selling it. You can't replace a "grail" with another "grail".

Personally I would keep the AP. I've grown to appreciate mine and have previously had two WG Daytonas that have both been sold on.

This in itself doesnt make sense to me. Also if your asking TRF if its a grail worthy watch well I dont think its the ultimate grail for you

You will know yourself without asking.

It’s a nice watch but not really “grail”. I got a WG Daytona sitting in the safe, I have both white and black c500s but I wear a Royal Oak to work everyday.

Agree but today most all Rolex internet hype makes some buy the hype thinking they have something very special .The Daytona has a great movement and is a nice watch but way over hyped for what it is, basically now a almost 20 year old cosmetically changed old watch. But will add not a fan of the modern Daytona or any of the RO range again great movements but dont like there style.

I think if it’s not an impulse trade, but is one that you’ve considered for some time - and that will make you happy, go for it.

I think the dealer would love that trade, as he is the only one who ever makes out well in any trade. The time to get that particular Daytona was a while ago, as it used to be a dog, not now when it is trading at crazy prices IMHO.

I’d keep the AP, personally.

Not just because I think all Daytona’s are overrated, but because I think the rose gold ROC is stunning.

I wouldn't do it. Both Peters hit the nail on the head with its hype. I think the AP is the winner of the two.

Agreed. OP, I want to take it at face value that you love the Daytona more, but your follow on questions may lead me to believe that you are falling prey to the hype. IMHO, the AP is in another league.

Thanks everyone for all the input. I appreciate it. Having think about it, it does put me in a disadvantage.

Maybe i was itching to get a new watch and the allure of the green dial daytona is very strong

Let’s see a pic of your AP!

I don’t know if I have a grail or not, but if teacher salary doubled over night, the first watch I would buy is an AP ROC.

Don’t know in what metal though, but they are all gorgeous

I use Tapatalk, it makes it easier

I mean the Daytona is stunning, but I don’t think it’s AP ROC stunning lol

Well I own the ss daytona ceramic with black dial and I really like how it fits on my rather small wrist and the ROC fits quite big.

That was 1 of the factors why I was thinking of trading it with the daytona. The daytona is yellow gold so maybe its has a more 'bling' factor compare to the rose gold of the ROC

NO don't buy into JM hype. Your AP is on another class of its own, I would never trade it.

Keep the AP. Nobody gave a rats ass about this one until JM made some personal, absurd predictions, which has now set the market and turned it into a reality. You have a better piece now.

What's the point in owning a watch you don't wear really ?

Yes I rarely wear it because I keep it for special occassion or for the day when I feel I "deserve" to wear the ROC if you understand what I mean
