One month wait...

Last May there was a thread here about a store in the Midwest that had some SS pieces available. It was deleted soon, and because of that I won't mention places or the name of the AD, because it may be not allowed.
The thing is I called them, they said they have a Submariner and a Submariner Date available and I drove there and got my first Rolex (114060). It was a pleasant experience, well worth the drive.
In July my wife had her 50th birthday and I contacted them and bought her a TT 28 mm Datejust. When we were picking it up I mentioned that I'd really like to buy a 116610LV, and one month later they called me and say they got me one! I was traveling then, so I asked them to hold it for me, and last Saturday I went there to pick it up. Paid MSRP plus taxes, which were less than half the IL tax, and I got my brand new Hulk!
My whole relationship with this AD is 3 to 4 months old, and I've spent around $ 16,000 when they got me my LV. I just wanted to tell my story because it doesn't seem to be so difficult to get these pieces as some members write here. I would never pay 13 or 14k for this watch, but $ 9,050 seems fair!

Great story! Sounds like a fantastic AD. Especially since they were willing to hold the hulk for you, that’s not common. Looks like you’re developing quite the relationship.

Congrats on all your recent purchases and your wife’s milestone!

My AD pulled through with a Pepsi for my 30th in July, great feeling

Wear your new subs in good health my friend

I tried to take a photo of what they had on display, but the lighting was terrible.

There is a tendency for people to blow things way out of proportion when they do not get ‘immediate’ gratification.

In any case, congratulations OP. Wear in good health

Similar situation here with my Midwest AD. I’ve purchased two Rolex’s (SD4K and a BLNR) and a Tudor (Black Bay) from my AD and was offered a black dial SS Daytona last week. I passed as I’m holding out for a white dial. Congrats on the Hulk!

As for the wait time, I truly it believe it comes down to your AD and how well you hit it off.

I live in the Midwest and would love to find one of these friendly ADs. I have tried with the folks in Indy but no joy.

It doesn't seem so difficult when you spend an additional $16k in a short time span - you're right about that.

Luckily I'm not in this situation as I have what I want, but for those that don't have the extra money to spend and can only get to that one watch they're after, it CAN be extremely difficult.

Of course I spent this extra money, but it was in two other watches I wanted to buy (and they even absorb the taxes in my wife's one). I didn't have to buy any jewelry or spent $30 to 50k as some threads here mention as requisite to obtain SS pieces.

I just wanted to share my experience to counter the argument that the only way you can get a SS piece nowadays is to buy grey and pay a premium, which is absolutely not true.

Yes.

Congrats to the OP. His story is truly amazing but he is the exception, not the norm.

In larger markets, the in store expenditure is much higher to be consider for Hulks and the like.

There is no reason in the world to pay $14K+ for this watch. They are easier to get than the 116610LN.

You start so far behind the eight ball when you pay that much coming out of the gate.
