Trying to better understand and pick the differences, I am creating this thread for photos of polished vs unpolished.

Condition: Unpolished

Anyone that's worn a new watch knows that it would be impossible to keep it looking that clean more than a few days.

The problem with OVERpolishing is that it looks terrible AND it's going to get marked up anyway. Why ruin a watch to look good for a few weeks at best?

Now, if the watch looks clean with sharp edges and it's been polished, whats the problem?

Sorry, I misread your post as asking about its polished state, not declaring it.

My statement stands, but please carry on. Also, if that's your unpolished watch, for the love of mankind, WEAR it into the wild.

It's just all about health, happiness & family. The rest are just necessary inconvenience we have to deal with.

Correct I bought a used sub unpolished but with some light scratches thats the way to go. Honest watch!! If it didn't have some wear its been polished, otherwise it would be NOS.

As long as any polish is done correctly there is no problem with any polished watch, today this anti polish is bordering on the ridiculous.Fact Rolex watches are designed to be polished and as long as any polish is only done at normal routine services by say the RSC. Trouble today some read on internet forums about a polish bad job,then hysteria kicks in then every polish job is going to be bad.But when you think of the millions of Rolex watches that get polished every year by the various ADs and independents world wide,the so called bad polish is a very tiny amount.

What’s with this new religion on unpolished watches?

Of course used watches will be polished to be sellable. RSC usually does a good job, so no big deal about that.

Whether it is a big deal or not depends on the quality of the polish. You may find that watches with a sharp case and reasonable wear and tear/scratches are easier to sell than watches that are polished to the extent that the watch has lost it's character.

The fact is that buyers have been poorly educated about polishing and willing to accept poorly polished pieces. Buyers have also been easily lied to and believed it when told that a heavily polished watch was never polished. I think times are changing and buyers are becoming more discerning.

Some point since 1969 this has been polish probably but original dial and hands and paperwork etc. it was the best condition 5512 I stumbled upon rather than looking for 14060m NOS. It has a slightly newer bracelet but as my daily I don’t mind.
