Tattoos and Rolex

Any other tattooed brothers sporting Rolex watches? Yes, you can be heavily inked and still successful

Sorry Op, it maybe my age but imho they look awful and I cannot understand why anyone would go through the pain and risk to have them.

Says who? I work for an American Exchange firm in the city of London. I have about 7 tattoos on my right arm and I've never been told to officially cover up. In fact I even had compliments from a board member before. My tattoos are all family related to my kids and I proudly show them off.

OP I think tattoos and Rolexes look great. Long long gone is the image that Rolexes are worn by just bankers and working professionals in suits.

Maybe 20 years ago. The ex-CFO of Goldman Sachs, who built all of their risk and training systems, was very well tattooed. The PM of Canada has one now.

Some companies remain culturally less accepting, but I”m not sure I’d personally enjoy working there - I prefer meritocracies.

As a former Goldman guy (VERY low-level) I find it fascinating that someone with tattoos would rise to the position of CFO. Of course at Goldman Sachs almost anything can be forgiven if you prove your ability to generate revenue. Still, Goldman in the past was traditionally a Jewish-centric firm at the management level. And the Jewish faith has prohibitions against tattoos. Marty is a special guy. Brilliant, obviously, but very down to earth. John Winkelried was another. He gave the orientation to my VP class and was mesmerizing.

note: don't be so impressed at anyone being a VP at Goldman. It was kinda like being a General in the Mexican Army. EVERYbody got a shot at having the VP title. Sure looked impressive on a business card though. :)

Lol ya. I have a sleeve but i stopped it about 3/4 of the way down so i could wear long sleeve and roll them up. I remember constantly being concerned of what people would think. Then i moved into tech and manage a sales team while wearing a backwards had and tee shirt most days. I work for the largest tech company on the planet and nobody cares.

There are a few industries that won’t be ok with tattoos until the boomers go away. Financial services is one, and i get it. If you have a client that’s 75 years old, they are very unlikely to be ok with a person half their age in a backwards hat and tattoos managing their life savings. It shouldn’t make a difference but it obviously does.

not actually sure what it would take to change the workplace in finance/wall street. it's so deeply rooted into the culture and hierarchy there

You'd do well to think a little deeper than lumping everyone born during a certain period of time into a nice neat little basket.

He wasn't asking your opinion if you like them or not. I dont understand post like this or some people for that matter. Didn't mama teach you if you dont have something nice to say dont say anything at all.

Pretty much any post ever that starts with "Sorry op" it is better to just not post at all.

You're right, he is entitled to his opinion. What he's not entitled to do is call another forum member a derogatory name.

the color on that ink vs. the assumed age (over at least 1 yr) is fantastic! your artist does great work!

Tattoos or not, wear what you like! I have many visible on my arms. The watch is a tool and a piece of art. In my opinion, how do they NOT compliment each other!

Hard start a public thread on a open minded forum and expect all those minds to think alike.

Indeed it is, and I have tattoos but I could give two F’s what other people say and can respect anyone’s opinion even if it doesn’t suit my own.

This is ridiculous. Buy a calendar... or just take a walk down the street. it’s 2019

My doctor is fully covered head to toe with tattoos and he became an MD years after getting two full sleeves.

I know many multimillionaires either in the corporate world or entrepreneurs that are heavily tattooed

It isn’t the 50s anymore

Edit:

Didn’t mean to sound harsh, defensive moment.

I can see your point, but in hindsight it all depends on how those who are tattooed carry themselves

There’s a big difference between someone who is heavily tattooed, dresses like a slob and has a harsh demeanour or someone who is well dressed, and carries themselves well.

We live in a day and age where people are able to express themselves openly, flaunt their passions even if its on their skin. The people who aren’t accepting of it are usually people who are on their way out of society from a workplace standpoint. ie: the old school boomers who are on their way out into retirement anyway (doesn’t apply to all and I mean no offence) this typically means the corporate world 10 years from now won’t even bat an eye when seeing a visible tattoo

I have my hands, my neck, whole back and arms tattooed and I get along with everyone I meet and can still comfortably put food on the table

I also can’t go anywhere publicly for more than a couple days without at least one or two people in any age group telling me “love your ink!” Or “wow where did you get those done!”

It’s always a good conversation starter and allows me to me more social with strangers which I love

It is 2019, and everyone is allowed an opinion. I happen to lean more towards the gentleman you were replying to, and am quite a bit younger than you. Good thing you didn't ask me for permission before getting yours :D

Sweet car, though. Not that you're looking for approval, you've definitely got my thumbs up on that one! Watches aren't too bad either.

Your right. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion I never said he wasn’t. All I’m saying is tattoos never held me back from living the life I’ve wanted to live.

And maybe I disagree with the fact with the whole “tattoos are frowned upon” thing because I’ve never experienced it

Also how much is “quite a bit younger”? Lol I just turned 30

Also, I don’t ask anyone for permission to do anything ;)

.... unless it’s my wife; sometimes
