With only 19 posts in 5 years, me thinks OP is a high-profile dude who tries to keep it on the low.

That is a major score. It is curious how a walk-in would get one.

Nice!
I just can’t see why people are paying $16k on a $9k watch right now. Scarcity or not. It’s still a $9k watch. That’s just insanity and talk about that sinking feeling when you do pay $16k and some members are getting them from the AD for $9k. Congrats to OP.

These days, you could apply that to any hot model with even more of a market adjustment. $24k on a $12.4K Daytona, etc... In fact, you could apply this to almost every SS Professional model in the catalog. Theses walk-in stories keep the dream alive for the 98.7%ers that this doesn’t happen to. |

There's more to this story. We all know that you don't just walk into an AD and walk out with a BLNR without there being a relationship already.

Unexpected purchase.... Thank you AD
Quote:
Congratulations! I love the new BLNR! I had a similar experience in July. I visited my AD to say hello to my SA (I literally had never stepped foot in that store before). A few months before, I purchased a Tag Heuer Monaco quartz from him over the phone because I was in a neighboring state (to avoid sales tax). Later, I called in to order a DJ41. I was told that I would have to physically visit store because of Rolex policy. So, I did. During that visit I paid for half of my DJ41 order and casually said, “please let me know if you get a new Batman.” Nothing happened. But later, I asked if they had a jubilee DJ41 there so they could size my bracelet when my watch arrived. My SA said, “I think we have one in the back” because they only had two DJ41s with oysters in the front case. When he returned, he was holding a Rolex “coffin” — the plastic case Rolex ships watches in to ADs. As he got closer I could see a jubilee bracelet but then ... I saw it was a new BLNR. I was a bit perplexed because I thought, “how can they get a proper sizing for a DJ41 with a GMT?” Then,, he asked, “would you like to purchase this?” The rest is history ... that was the luckiest watch day in my life! Thank you everyone
Well, the long version is, I went to browse with no intention to make any purchase since I just pick up a blue DJ 36 a month ago ( from a different AD). I did look at the usual suspects , DJ, OP,DD, YM , PM daytona but since I am partial for stainless steel and white gold, nothing really caught my attention. He asked what I was looking for and I casually answered Hulk and Pepsi ( me knowing the standard response will be negative ) . After a few minutes of conversation, he asked if I would be interested in a Batman. I asked if I can try it on and the next thing I know he bought out the watch ( in its coffin ) . While I was trying it , he said I would be crazy not to buy it ( I think he made that comment since he can sense that I was having second thoughts as I was stone face and yes, he said that the wait list is years and its going for a premium in the secondary market ). In reality , I was very excited but I was caught off guard ( since I know GMT are hard to get ,ergo it was not in my radar ) and I was expressionless ( haha). The next thing I know , I’m paying for it ( I even have to ask the price ) and its being sized. I was tempted to ask for the coffin but decided not to. At home, I saw they left the stickers of the caseback and clasp. As the other forumer said, it was the luckiest watch day of my life. PS—its my first purchase with this AD Again, thanks to everyone |

That’s is completely perplexing!! A no prior purchase walk in gets offered a BLNR without even asking for one. Big congrats I would buy some lottery tickets also if I were you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
